Hello,
I have a new-to-me O'Day 19 (not the Rhodes) that I need a motor for. The old one was a 1075 Johnson 6 HP which never ran right, so I don't know if it was the right size. It was also a 2 stroke.
I am looking at purchasing a Tohatsu 4 stroke motor new (unless I hear otherwise) but don't know what horse power to get. I sail on Cape Cod Bay where tide currents can be strong and winds can be too. The O'Day weighs 1350 lbs empty, but with full load would be up around 2200 lbs. It could weigh more if there are more than 4 people.
I am thinking of getting a 5 hp, as I like the external gas tank, but wondered if that seems appropriate. Do I have to be concerned about the motor mount? The motors weigh just under 60 lbs. I think the Johnson weighed just under 50 lbs.
I searched the archives, but only found information for larger O'days.
Thanks
Steve
