Old Mast: 27' 6"
New Mast: 27' 1"
That's only a 5 inch difference. I might be tempted to make an aluminum base that the new mast sits on making up the additional 5 inches. Just a random thought...

Are the old mast and new masts the same extrusion? If so, I would cut 5" off the old mast and have someone weld it on to the bottom of the new mast. This can be done so that it's virtually undetectable. My C36 mast was 52'2", and the last 2'2" was welded onto the 50' piece. Without close inspection one couldn't tell.
