Electrical Issue/Tripping main breakers then won’t reset. We are having an ongoing issue with our shore power. When we trip the main breaker we can’t get the main breakers- A or B bus to reset. When it trips it trips all the way up to the pier power meter. Both AC breakers remain on the boat don’t trip when we attempt to reestablish power. We are using smart plugs and have replaced one of the smart plugs which appeared to restore power to the panel but when we tripped the main breaker today we are again unable to restore power. It again trips at the pier but not on the boat.Help, it’s cold. Everything runs when we switch on the generator

Have you changed anything before the problem started? How long have the smart plugs been on the boat? Have you tried turning off all the breakers and turning them on one at a time starting with the main?

One brand new smart plug on A bus as that’s the breaker that keeps flipping. Yes we have turned off all breakers and have tried to turn them on with the meter breaker first, pier breaker, main boat breakers and then main panel breakers. When we go to turn A bus on it buzzes for a second, the reverse polarity light and A bs light flicker and the breaker flips off.

We added a GFCI plug on the B bus, put a 25 amp breaker on it and isolated it.

Is thistwo thirty’s? On the back of the plug the copper looking screw should connect to the black wire(hot), the silver screw should connect tothe white wire(neutral), and green screw to green wire. This is of couse providing the boat is wired correctly by color. It seems like you have a dead short when you mention it buzzes

Yes it is 2 thirty’s. Hot, neutral and ground are all wired correctly. We’re wondering if the main A breaker on the panel needs replacing? What is a dead short.

When you connect hot to neutral or ground. The buzz is a tip off. You really need to turn off the electric and stop stressing the breakers and use a meter set to continuity to map out your wireing issue.

Will it trip with all the breakers off as soon as you plug it in or only turn on the dock breaker?

As in measuring resistance across breakers or across the wiring? We did read if you flip a breaker too many times it may need replacing.

So with all boat breakers off including mains, if you plug in the boat and reset the pedestal breaker it will stay on?
