when working with AC current (120vac) it is not necessary to be concerned about wire size for a 50 ft run or less as long as the wire size is rated for the amperage coming out of the breaker...ei 30 amp = #10......20 amp = #12 ....... 15 amp = #14 ....etc....if you are concerned about wire size,go up one size.....most 30 amp shore power cords are #10 in a 50 ft length

What's the best recommendation if you need more than 50' of cord?

My boat is 42' but the pedestal is on the port side and boat inlet is aft starboard, so by the time I cross my wide beam, the 50' cord barely makes it and is twisted at a scary angle. In other words, I need a 52 foot shore power cord.

Marinco makes "extension cords" that can be added on to your present 50'cord. I recently purchased a 12foot extension, I believe that there are other lengths including 25' and perhaps 6'. The extensions have a male & female plug. There is a coupler , that must be purchased separately, that will ensure a tight weather proof seal where the extension twist locks onto the main cord. Purchased my extension from Defender; I am sure all the major chandleries have them also. As Woodster mentioned, you have to be careful with adding onto the 50 cord because the cord is only rated for a specific voltage & amperage. Check the appropriate tables to determine if the voltage drop will have any significance by adding the extension.

Sorry I think I'm missing something.
You can buy the Ancor 10/3 shorepower cable in bulk and add ends to it. If you only need 52' there is no reason to add a long extension.

Marinco extensions are 12' and longer only.

Call Smart Plug they have and can do longer lengths..
