Also, take the paint to a store and if it costs you $10 to get it shaken, it IS money well spent. The stuff is like runny peanut butter when mixed properly, and you cannot do it by hand.
Funny you mention this. On the way out to the boatyard, I stopped at Home Depot to have my bottom paint shaken. You'd think that it was radioactive or something the way the attendant handled it. Sure, it's a little heavy, but it's a new unopened can, it ain't gonna kill ya'.

I tried to stir the first can of IP2000 by hand. That ended well. :)

I like a dull putty knife for rough scraping. It flexes, and it doesn't gouge.

Thanks for the advice. I am not there yet but a lot closer.

I sanded off all I could while the boat was still on the trailer. Scraping first was the way to go. Still a lot of work but it was quicker than just sanding.

I found a couple of areas in need of fixing however. There is a decent size gouge of fiberglass out of the keel just forward of the centerboard trunk. I assume I can fill this with resin.

The more concerning problem is the centerboard itself. It is split. ( see pic). I assume it happened from the board dropping and hitting the trailer axel while going down the road. Not exactly what to do here. Fill it with resin? Lay glass over it? A new one is 600 so I would love to fix it.

I am thinking that investing in some jack stands might be a good idea. It is a huge pain to crawl around on the ground.

Oh and I broke the trailer winch too. One step forward, three steps back!

Well, raising it up off the trailer didn't work using the sea saw method. Not enough clearance.
I am buying boat stands.

Before you invest in boat stands...
Try raising the stern just aft of the centerboard using a floor jack and some blocks of wood. Additionally, you could probably drag the boat off the trailer and roll it over. This is just a 19 ft boat with no ballast, right?
You could also use a shop crane (engine lift). I lifted my C22 off the trailer using a shop crane with a tow strap run under the stern forward and wrapped around the swing keel and back to the crane. Any anchor point to keel the strap under the stern will work.
All of these solutions are less expensive than boat stands.

It's got a 300lb ballast with a center board.
No engine lift either.

Every other option I would have to buy something. I might as well get two rear stands and have a nice stable place to work. Cost my 220. I also need to get the centerboard out to fix the crack.

I get ya! I use my boat stands every year for one boat or another! May I suggest two V stands and a 6x6 timber about 12 ft long? It works great to lift the bow with the stands wide enough to pull the trailer out? Hmmm??? It is so nice to pull the trailer out to have the boat only on stands.

Is that a keel stand?

Get two, put a notched board a cross under the bow? That's not a bad idea. I would love to not have the trailer in the way.

I am going down to defender Saturday morning to pick them up

No. It is a bow stand that has the V.
Just lay some shims and carpet on the timber. Don't notch it.

Gotcha.. This?

And to be clear. Two of them and a long 6x6.

Then two boat stands in the rear and wood under the keel.

It will paint up nice. But since it's being kept on a trailor it has always been my understanding that you want a really hard paint for your bottom and that a biocide is wasted on a boat that does not sit in the water for long periods. When you put your outside paint on, not your barrier coat I would think you would want to roll and tip to get that really smooth finish.

Yes. Those are the stands. Make sure they are tall enough to lift the boat over the trailer bunks and fenders. And a 6x6 timber. Mine is like 12 feet long.
Then two sailboat jacks for the stern and a keel jack. Measure the height of your boat on the trailer to buy the right height jacks.

The idea is to be able to set the forward stands outside the width of the trailer wheels, so you can drive the trailer out. You can also do it by walking the jacks through the trailer as you pull it out, but that is slow!

Update.

All paint is gone, hull sanded down with 80 grit. I have been waiting for a good day to paint. We have had high temps and high humidity. Tomorrow looks decent. I am going to go for it.

Taking my paint to get shaken today. I assume doing it today it will still be nicely mixed for tomorrow?

Wish me luck!

Be careful getting the paint shaken. I took a gallon of bottom paint to my local hardware store. The put it on the machine to shake it. The contents were so heavy it badly distorted the can. They stopped the machine before it blew apart.

Since then I use a metal stirrer attached to a drill.
