Some Additional Thoughts
Aaron,Ron's right on, but I'd like to add a few glitches that might complicate things. The following assumes that you want to fix the lower bushing as well as the upper:First, if you're hauled & on blocks, you're probably going to have to dig a 1' hole below the rudder to get it out. When you drop the rudder it's going to hit the ground before the shaft is free of the lower bearing. Not a big deal, but if you're boat is resting on pavement or if the ground is frozen, then this is definitely going to halt your progress. The second potential problem is the steering quadrant. If you have wheel steering & you're sure the quadrant hasn't been disconnected within the last few years, it can be a REAL PAIN getting those bolts free. On many C-30's rain water leaks through the rudder cap & collects on the quadrant set screws. Water + Aluminum quadrant + stainless screws = potential problems. I had to sacrifice my quadrant (cut it with a hack saw) to get it free so I could drop my rudder. A new one wasn't cheap, and hacking that thing off in tight quarters added 1 whole day to my project. It's all do-able, but I thought you'd want to know that there are some potential road blocks that can set you back.Good luck with the fix!Allen Schweitzers/v DrambuieC-30 Hull# 632
