Repair or Replace BOTH dual rope clutches on '83 H34

Well I'm to the point in my refit that I need to either replace all of the handles ($20/each) on my rope clutches or replace the entire units. I'm more inclined to replace the unit rather than spend $40 for two new handles on what appear to be original units. Some considerations would be the mounting. I have removed the starboard side unit and found it held in with four bolts with standard washers. At the least I would think that fender washers would be more appropriate to spread out the strain.
I see the new clutches change size at 1/2" line. The lines currently on the boat measure (using a caliper) anywhere from .45" to .55". I'm guessing this is due to being left out but that still leaves me guessing what size clutch if I go that route. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yeah, get some new Spinlock clutches, you will love them...and the boat.

+1 for Jon's post. Love me some Garhauer! That's what we replaced our clutches with.

Thanks for the responses & the link. Two votes and a decent price to boot.

The load on clutches is in shear, not tension. Smaller washers are OK.

Hey Jackdaw, understand the direction of the load, just that a lot of the mounting holes, not here, that I've re-beded all show radial cracking which I figure (FG all new to me) is from stress. I now countersink the gel coat to relieve the stress and allow for bedding compound.
The above Garhauer dual clutches are rated at 1000lbs. I have no clue what the min. should be for halyards, main, jib, spinnaker (don't have).
