Odd man out?
I believe in simplicity and efficiency. The H34 I bought in 2014 on the west coast has a 3GMF swinging an over-propped 2-blade 15x18(?) Michigan (I think 15x15 is standard on these boats?).
Why happy as a clam? Can’t make redline, the exhaust starts smoking at <3,000rpm, loves to run at 2,250rpm making 6.0 knots in calm water, like lugging uphill in high gear. Fuel consumption of 1.5 L/hr (=15nm per gallon, not bad for a ~7-ton (yard weigh scale) boat.
I described the issue with a retired career Yanmar specialist who commented that diesels love to work hard and, at that rpm, ‘it will last forever’.
