I just downloaded the new Internet Explorer 7 and in one word it STINKS! First off I use my bookmarks or favorites as much as my contacts area of my cell phone. I have literally six or seven hundred favorites in folders like "message boards", "boating Links", "banking links", "weather links", "photography links" etc. Any and every good web site I use is bookmarked it's how I navigate. IE7 would not import my favorites correctly and would not work! It also kept crashing and giving me the "send error report to microsoft" message. Although it says you can import bookmarks it would not allow me to import bookmars from my main browser Mozilla! Among other things they also got rid of the menu bar at the top with File, Edit, View etc. these are tools I use constantly! To make a long story short I am not going to buy another windows machine and I'll switch to a Mac. Thank you Microsoft for forcing me into something I already knew I needed to do. If IE7 is a pre-cursor to what we can expect from Vista run, run, run away. If MS is going to re-invent the entire UI (user interface) then I'm going to learn a new UI on a Mac not a PC! I'm fed up with crashes, loading peripherals that don't work or are not recognized and having to buy virus software each year. Don't download IE7 if you know whats good for you. It took me an hour to get IE6 back up and running after removing IE7. The only reason I even keep IE6 on my machine is because for some strange reason YachtWorld does not run well on Mozilla = slow. If YachtWorld would fix their site I could delete IE6 permanently. It doesn't matter now though I've got my eyes set on that 24" iMac and my PC's days are numbered!

Hey Maine Sail

Why don't you tell us how you really feel?;) I was going to suggest that you reverse it but you did that. Never-mind. You do realize that most of us suspect that you are a MS competitor don't you?

Sounds Like User Issues

Not sure what your problem is. I have been using IE7 since it came out in beta and never had a problem. All my favorites worked without issue. Besides, this isn't the forum for something like this. Get a life.

Mac

I switched to Mac a while back and will never buy another Windows machine. In the time you read this another Windows exploit has been developed.

Hence the "OT" or off topic ..

Actually it's not user issues MS has an issue with importing favorites in folders and an issue with importing favorites from Mozilla. I'm sure the crashing was my fault too...?? I even tried downloading it twice and same issues. I understand this is a sailing forum but Yachtworld does not run well on Mozilla so I'm guessing I'm not the only one using IE for browsing YachtWorld. Besides I did preface my post with "OT" or Off Topic don't read it if you don't want..

IE 7 is fine

I use it and it works fine. I also have a Mac and while it is nice I find WIndows XP to be just as good as OSX and there is much more software available for the PC. Look for Nav software and you will find much more for the PC than the Mac. When my Mac is used up I will replace it with a PC. I know - sacrilige!

IE7 still has the toolbar...

I've been using IE7 for quite a while now and haven't had any problems. I didn't have to import any favorites from Mozilla, so I can't speak about that issue. It did take a while to get used to the new UI, but I like change so it was all for the better. The old menubar is still there. It just has to be turned on if you want to use it.

What kind of problem with Firefox in Yachtworld?

I use Firefox (and Thunderbird)...love 'em both...wouldn't use IE or Outlook if they paid me to do it. Firefox has some 2700 add-ons...Have you checked their site to see if thee are any add-ons that can solve your problem in Yachtworld? I did have a problem in a couple of sites when I first downloaded and their ad blocker, but quickly discovered that it's a simple matter to to fix: just go to the toolbar and disable ad blocker....re-enable it when I leave that site.

Plan B:

If Mozilla doesn't have an add on that'll help, use IE only to visit YW...Firefox for everything else. You wouldn't even need any bookmarks in IE...just make YW your homepage there. There's almost always more than one way to skin most cats. :)

Maine Sail, This is not off topic.

If you can't get here, that's a sailing problem. I have downloaded upgrades before, and a few times have had problems. I woulld clear out and try downloading it again. How messed up is your computer? I regularly go into control panel /internet options/ and clear all my temp files. I clear cookies about once a month.I run Adware SE Personal about once a week. If I don't clear out all the tracking attached to some sites, my machine starts to become slow. Sometimes just shutting it down and letting it reboot helps. I keep no history. I also live off the menu bar and my favorites. Hope something here helps. r.w.landau

I too have come back home.

Thank You Steve Jobs, For this new I-Mac. After a month and a half I'm forgetting about all the hoops I use'ta go through with my PC. Not only is my computer desk work area clean and modern looking with 80% of wires gone but the humm of the fans and clunking of the ugly box is gone and now at last, peace and quiet. Just like sailing. I love it.

I see you wore the fish out bringing it in.

Nice fish! Best striper I have picked up was 28. That is striper with one "p" and 28 as in inches not years old. Just clarifying so that there is no corrections. r.w.landau

I switched to Macs about 2 years ago

and absolutely love them. The only thing I missed, as I reported here earlier today, was not being able to update my Garmin GPS units, so I relented and bought a used laptop with XP to use solely for GPS updates. It took all of 3 minutes to remember why I hate Windows so much!

You need Registry Mechanic too

I've had it installed for at least a year and wouldn't be without it. I run it at least twice a week. Check it out here: http://www.pctools.com/ And while you're on the site check out their Spyware Doctor...it's "de-throned" Spybot S&D as the top rated anti-spy program. I had Spybot for several years...decided to check out Spyware Doctor...it found things Spybot missed. RW, you really oughta check out Firefox...there's a reason why it's the rated the best browser on the planet. it has a cookie blocker that allows you to block the cookies you want to block, keep the ones you want to keep...and the best popup blocker I've ever seen...It can even block ads that aren't popups. As for antivirus, I gave up on Norton. I'd used it for years, but couldn't live with having to uninstall and reinstall it every other day to make live update work. I've used AVG Free (which is) for last couple of years. Avast is another really good free AV program.

IE7 -- a real crasher

We had one of our computers crash constantly after downloading IE7. I, too, spent hours getting IE6 back up and running -- the method is to find the "iexplore.exe" that's a much smaller application file than the IE7, with the logo without the drarker swish on the upper left side. It's the only way to get back up and running if IE7 doesn't work. I understand some have it and it works, but I agree that it doesn't always, didn't for us.

Boy, Am I Glad You Asked...

...since I installed IE 7.0 on my laptop, I have been SCREAMING! It has taken the whole thing down to a crawl. I'm going to uninstall the stupid thing and go back to 6.0. Gessh, it isn't that old a laptop. I use Firefox usually, but have to use IE to connect with my dock's wifi. In fact, I was going to post my problems here, but figured I'd get strung up for doing so. So, thanks Maine Sail for being the "cutting edge" on this (off) topic. Rick D.
