Thanks ED, Now I am going down to the boat and dig around the hull # and see if I can bring up any more letters or numbers, I have been sanding and priming getting ready to paint the hull, so now is the time to look.

Maybe JC II will see this and can help. I am wondering if the change to '33' from the other designations came after the move from NJ to FL. Notice how the odd HINs are the low numbered hulls.

What year did Hunter move from NJ to FL 1979? My Hunter 33 is a 1979, hull number is HUN33188M79L. Previous post referenced a 1979 Hunter 33 with a HUN600... number.

No, it was not the move from Marlboro, NJ to Alachua, FL. That move happened in 1983. I found that in the Cherubini history that Jim Legere maintains, a PDF in the H37C Owner's Mods.

Hunter production figures

I do know that in this period ('76-'79-ish) in Marlboro NJ the Hunter plant was pushing out one boat per line per day. There were five lines with five boats in each: 25, 25, 27, 30, and 33 (gen-1). This means that they were putting out 1250 boats a year. It was a thing to behold. At 10 am (right after break) a whistle blew and the doors opened. Each line pushed out its boat to the waiting truck, moved the other four up and got one in the other end from the 'glass shop. This took about ten minutes; and then the day's work for each crew began on each station. If you didn't get the last 7 hours and 50 minutes' worth of work done in time, you had to finish it and get today's done as well before 10 am tomorrow. --typical German (John Luhrs) efficiency!

Meanwhile there was my dad explaining something to someone, leaning in to draw the necessary sketch on whatever was not polished and painted-- the cutout table, the back of a piece of sole plywood, the side of his van, and of course the steel framing of the building-- which, if it's still there, probably still bears his sketches.

Once in Alachua, apparently this figure (especially as pertains to these models) tapered down. Some boats, such as the 35 and 36, were most likely produced only in Florida. My 25 (#27) came from Marlboro, most likely sold by Sails Aweigh in Brick (one of the first dealers), and has spent its whole life in NJ.

How about Cherubini Hunter 33 Hull #1 ... seems that it still exists and its available!

This confirms my observation; there were at least 591 H33C's made not counting the quest boats. It was an incredible run. Based on what I am finding in mine (#513), they were very well made. The layup is thick and done well. The wood in the cabinetry is good quality and the rigging attachments have held up well. I am extremely pleased with what I am finding in this little gem.

Based on the H33 number of 591 I would guess even more H30's. Any H30 owners out there with 6xx?

Ed, if memory serves the H30 debuted in model year 1974, as I was doing the interior layout drawings in summer '73 and attended the production meetings in August '73. If it took them a full year to ramp up production, let's say making only 1-2 boats a week, that would mean approximately a hundred boats; and then there would be 5 a week for the next 5-7 years or so. This would suggest an astonishing 1600-odd boats from the same design (they must have had several hull molds for each model). Even if we were a little more pessimistic we could presume that at least half this many were built.

A way to test this extremely generalized hypothesis is to get answers to the following questions.

1. Is there an H30 with a 1975 hull number greater than 125?
2. Is there an H30 with a 1976 hull number greater than 250?
3. Is there an H30 with a 1977 hull number greater than 500?
4. Is there an H30 with a 1981 hull number greater than 750?

If people want to e-mail me their info I'll begin to assemble a proper data base and post the findings on my blog.

If you've read this and are curious, I'd like to ask for:
-- the FULL Hull Identification Number;
-- year of title or first registration;
-- geographical origin of the boat;
-- photos if you'd like to share them (or post them on the Owners' site and send me the link).

I'll assemble what I can-- and shall appreciate any help. Maybe we can begin to do what Hunter has been reluctant to. Surely we've got the interest just amongst ourselves.

If you know anyone with a boat, who might not get this, pass it on :)

Will do. The hull number on my boat seems partially filled-in with paint or gel coat. I'll try to ressurect it and post.

John, What can I tell ya... In 33 years I have had:
One Child,
2 wives (One Ex),
1 Ex Fiance,
1 Grandchild,
9 CARS,
4 Houses,
8 Pets,

But only one Boat! She has taken me to 4 States & 4 Countries and she was my home for two years. Together we have survived 3 Hurricanes and the "Storm of the Century" while in the Bahamas (in the fall of '93 I Think ?). We have met some very interesting people, some of whom have become great friends, and seen sights you read about in books and magazines.

I looked at new and used boats for a year before finding my wonderful H30C. I've never regretted my decision and, in fact, have thanked Neptune on many occasions for the stoutness that your father designed into the boat (Even though I didn't know anything about the design team until well after I owned Intuition and started reading everything I could get my hands on). And so, I thank you for the great cabin layout, your father for his masterful design work and Hunter for building a solid boat that should take me many more sea miles in the future.
G.
