This question comes up all the time. One thing we know, Hunter does not have the records. We have called numerous times. The best you can hope for is that a late model owner or two will post their hull ids. There are 188 in the "Owner's Directory", two are 1983s and one a 1984. None included their hull ids. I did see an '82 that was #496 and this one: HUN-33531-M82G

either on your title/registration or you can find it embossed in the upper right hand corner of your transom in the gelcoat, mine also had it put in the bilge using plastic letters and covered with resin

Sam Lust believes he has one of the last; #591. It's a pretty good run for any 32'+ boat in that period.

I was going to say that.

We have been told that during that period Hunter started each series numbering at 100, which means there were probably 491 Hunter 33 Cherubinis made. I don't think this includes the "Quest" kit boats.

My 1980 Hunter/Cherubini 36 has hull #036. So the +"100" doesn't appear to be across all models anyway.

We have discussed the '100' subject before. Many of us have '0xx' boats. But don't know if that is confined to the 36 and 37. And what about the H30 where we already see boats in the high '9xx'? Did they build more than 999 and then what? Found these H33 hull ids: hun60001m77f3 hun60012m77h,

:) Beat ya to it.
If the 100 start number is accurate, there may have been a pilot run prior to production going full swing. This might explain Jim Cat's hull #001. I have also seen 7 and 11 on this sight.

Mine is Hun60079m7 and that's all I could find on the stern or the documentation so I may have a 78 instead of a 79, now I am confused!!!

That's about right bugaloo, your hull # is 079 and it probably is a 1978. You are just missing the last two characters of your id. My 1979 hull # is 074 but they started making the H37C much later than the H33. They wanted to get it right before they built the queen of the fleet. :)

Yeah, but the 33 was JC'S favorite!

Remember folks - Hunter model years started in August, so a 1979 model would have been built from August 1978 to July 1979!

I have always wondered why Hunter says it has no records of our boats - you would think Coast Guard would have obliged them to keep the records for policing purposes, since the HIN is essentially a serial #? Maybe they just can't be bothered to go find them?

But Sam, that is hearsay from JC II. Might be true if he couldn't single-hand the "big" boat. Not going to disparage our hero however.

My 33 has the hull id HUN60052M78C I think I have paperwork from the PO that says it was purchased in March of 1978 and I assumed the 52 means it was the 52nd 33 built but that would mean there were 52 built in about 15 months (about 3 per month)

It looks to me like Bugaloo's hull id is missing the year and month Hun60079m7?? Maybe its missing because it was a Quest version and therefore a year and month was not known when the ID was assigned.

Penquin, your 'M78C' is an October boat, the 'C'. If Jim is correct about Hunter's production year beginning in August then your boat was built in October of 1977.

Well that makes sense. It took 5 months to get from factory to sales floor to owner. Thanks for clearing that one up for me :). Hunter would have had to have been knocking out about 2 a week for a while to have around 600 33_77-83's produced

What exactly is a Quest version? I am confused now, the stern and CG documentation all show the same #

The Quest series were kit boats. Not sure how finished/unfinished they were. You bought one and had to finish the interior mainly I think. JC II would know.
