Good to hear Terry. This event has me thinking maybe I should get a field cam and set it up on the boat. Not much I could do being so far away but maybe it would relieve the stress of not knowing. Well thoughts for another time.
Trust the work you do to make the boat safe and if not fix what needs to be fixed, is my new motto.
John, I'm but a few minutes from the Everett Marina. If you need me to check on your boat just let me know, I would be happy to help out. You can reach me at home (425) 513-9673.

Weather forecast was way overblown so to speak. I suppose it's good to be prepared but whenever it's a slow news day the media hypes up the weather. The wind storms they don't predict is what you have to watch out for.

The storm moved north. We got very heavy winds here in Cowichan Bay much earlier in the day than predicted for further south.

Consider yourselves lucky that Mother Nature spared you. Very lucky.

Understanding weather is an important skill for all sailors. It is not a perfect science. It is more so complicated by the bureaucracy of the agencies we trust our lives to for information.
Here are two articles that may provide insight as to the events of Mathews. After the hype here in the PacNW over the past weekend storm some are questioning "Who cried wolf?"

Listening to our local weather meteorologist on Global TV, she said that given it to do all over again, she would not have changed one word of the wind warning. All the data was there but something changed at the last minute. I guess predicting the future ain't that easy.

Here's some of the damage we suffered at our place.

would a glass of spilled milk been more fitting?
Spilled milk implies "crying over".
This was serious stuff ................ a $12.00 bottle.
I don't know what you do over spilled wine. Lick the table ? ? ? Suck the tablecloth ? ? ? I guess it depends on the company and the time of night.

Where can you buy a $12 bottle of wine. A good home made (Steveston Wine shop) wine costs me about ($150/30 bottles) or $5/bottle. The cheapest LCB goat piss may be $12 + taxes (not included in LCB prices any more). Fortunately we didn't spill any wine at home or on the boat. It was very calm in our marina even though it was very rough out there in the Strait. I know as I came across on the last ferry sailing from the Island to Horseshoe Bay on Friday and spent the night aboard. There were a lot of halyards slapping though the night but not mine.

I don't have a problem with them getting it wrong. Predicting the weather can be tricky stuff. Its the interpretation of that data by the news media and politicians that hypes it into a colossal event. In Florida they tell millions to evacuate and the storm hits South Carolina. Here in the PNW they tell you expect wind in the 65mph range when those wind speeds are only predicted in the most exposed locations. When its obvious that's not going to happen, they say it's at 1500ft. Lol

Good one. I usually first refill my plastic (no glass on the boat, you know) wine goblet, then in-between slurps clean up the mess. Besides, I normally drink only the good stuff; Franzia box wine at $3/liter.

Terry, try some Black Box..Much better. A little more expensive but worth it. The liquor store in Fri Hbr has some stout (glass) glasses. Stuff em in socks.

Hi Mark, I've tried Black Box before (my son prefers it) and my palate does not know the difference. One brand that I can tell the difference is Liberty Creek at Walmart for under $6 per 1.5 liter. Great value.

Ok, I'll reply to the thread drift (since I don't know jack about the PNW storm).

Wife and I were going on a backpacking trip to the Sierras. What's a wino to do? Buy some Black box, remove the bladder from the box, put it in the dog's backpack (was a big dog). Ahhh... The mosquitos were terrible. It was freezing cold. We had wine, all was fine.
