And a magnetic / true heading selector. The AIS works pretty good but I am not sure if there is a intersection warning application.

Is this what I should buy?

I have Sea Clear but never added the GPS because ...... I didn't know a good location for the antenna. Can I just place the puck somewhere with a sky view and have GPS on my Laptop with SeaClear?

Andrew, if you read the link I provided in Reply #14 on page one of this thread, the answer is Yes. Just as kloudie said.

And: remove the magnet.

I use OpenCPN 2.1.0 and a USB puck GPS. It's versatile and easy to use. Only problem with Laptop is I can't mount it in the cockpit so I have to keep peeping inside the cabin to check course. If were buttoned up for weather then I'm out of luck. Thinking about integrating a small touch screen monitor into the system to be mounted at the helm.

Thanks Guys... I just got the HP lap top with fast processor, fast graphics card with dedicated cache, lots of RAM and I have a Garmin 76 GPS. I don't have an auto pilot yet; it's a different set of issues involving cost and use. Your answers are so detailed, it'll take me a month to sit down with the machine and figure out the process.
