Moisture in the foredeck

The boat Im looking to purchase has "elevated" moisture in the foredeck. Is this something I need to worry about and get fixed. What is the O'Day core made of?

I'm not sure about Oday, but our Hunter had high moisture in 3 major areas. We purchased it anyway. I rebedded deck hardware and kept some heat and a small dehumidifier inside. Moisture readings went to normal within a year. Having said that we had no soft spots to begin with.

If this is a big purchase, then why not get a survey? A Professional look responsible to you is cheap protection if you are not sure. Deck softness can be nothing or a big expense. It takes a skilled eye and ear to know the difference.

The O'Day is going to be an older boat, many older boats have high moisture readings. If the deck feels like a trampoline, it will need repair. If you love the boat and are willing to learn to repair it, then go for it if the price is right. Having a yard repair the deck is going to be too expensive for an older boat.

My current boat had "high moisture levels" in some areas of the deck. I bought it anyway.

Yes, I did get a survey, that's how I know there is moisture. The surveyor didn't think it was a big deal and the price was adjusted accordingly. Someone told me to rebed the hardware then drive holes from underneath to help it dry. I think as long as it hasn't delaminated I should be ok.

That's the best practice.
