What did the fuel look like when you tested your pump? It should be perfectly clear with a yellow tint. Any cloudiness or crud that looks like jelly floating around suggests contaminated fuel. Water in the tank might also be a suspect. Fuel hoses should be changed every ten years as someone noted previously they can deteriorate. I had one crack and start leaking yet the motor still ran fine. Your symptoms sound like fuel starvation.

It looked very clear to me. But if you've ever got fuel from a marina here, your fuel isn't yellow, it's red.
Mine is a very light red because I often take a jerry can and get diesel from a local gas station instead. I seldom pay the $5/gallon at the marina for gas that hasn't had road tax paid for. It's about $3.50 at the gas station, and that's with the taxes.
