I tried accessing the site a couple of hours ago but my computer or their server was not working. Working now. Seems a bit on the large size to bring from the east coast to Nebraska. $2500 dollars with good rigging and sails. Rain damage to cabin and no trailer. This a deep water boat and more than I need in a small land locked lake. Still, had it been ten feet or less in the beam, it would be on my short list.

Having my own semi licensed as a motorhome, and bringing my own boat cross country, I wonder what the weigh station people would say? I get them scratching their heads at regular trailers I pull. Mostly I pull a 42 foot toy hauler. They never mess with that, just let me pass.

Great News. I was contacted by a forum member on another site and he has one CM 30 with 4 sails, all rigging in tune, fresh paint, galvanized trailer and ready for water. It is snowed in , in Canada. In the spring it is mine.

I am sure all of you (all of you) are very happy for me.

I will come back here after it hits the water to let everyone know how it is going.

Did you make the deal without seeing it in person? I know you have your heart set on a CM30, and Dano has done quite a bit of work to that boat so you should be good to go, but I also know that pictures lie and there is nothing like getting up close and personal when it comes to purchasing any vehicle. Anyway, good luck with it!

Cheers,
Brad

Snowed in? It was a bit too warm today when I lugged the cover up to the boat and onto the frame. I was sweating. It sure was nice to lace up the cover without my hands freezing - a new experience. I think it might have been mid sixties - but the sunshine may have made it seem warmer. Tomorrow I hope to find a someone with a boat still in the water for a sail!

We are looking at our first snow to stick on the ground this weekend. I have my three boats and two motorcycles inside buildings for the winter.

The CM 30 may be too tall on a trailer to fit in my Morton building. Hope it will fit. Already have a toter home in the yard outside.

Just got back from the St. Petersburg boat show. There is a Seaward 46 there. It is a great boat. One of the few boats that you can definitely live aboard for a long time. Best boat on a trailer that I have seen.

OMG

I think that qualifies for the largest sailboat designed to be trailered that I have ever seen, ever, by far! Single handed mast stepping, dual engines, can be rigged for deep sea fishing, 2' 5" draft and everything you could ask for in terms of appliances and electronics. Nice boat.. too bad it weighs in at 23,000 lbs and has a beam of over 13'. I'm sure Gary could haul it behind his semi, but doubt it's in the price range or condition he was looking for ;)

Cheers,
Brad

I think you can find 30-32 is the practical max you will find. Check your beam against your states restrictions. In Maine we have 3 steps under 8'6'' is no problem Over 12 I think it is and you need wide load flags and lights when moving. Over 16 and you have a police escort and daylight only movement ETC. So check your state about permits. If height is a problem, remember 13'6" is about the most overhead you will have on a bridge. You might look at a twin or bilge keel as it will sit lower on the trailer.
But I think your right 30-32 is good without lots of extra problems you don't need.

Here she is sitting on a lake in Canada. Snow everywhere now, in the spring I will go get her. I read the last few miles of that road is more of a logging road that an interstate highway. The owner has done extensive upgrades in the way of maintenance, and is quite active at trailer sailors. He calls her SP for Superior Pleasure. It was a charter sailboat on the great lakes. Also did some time in Florida. I am told there is some etching in places from salt. You know what, if I bent over at 55, I bet my hull has some serious etching! lol

It has an interesting look to it. You going to build one?

A CM 30 sold a week ago for $1900 with a trailer. It was in good shape with everything. Had it listed at $4500. I would have purchased it had I known he would drop the price by more than half.

I would weigh the work and expence involved before starting a backyard project that large. This is not days or weeks, this project would be years.

Oh yeah... it is always cheaper to buy a used boat...and it seems like September is the best time to shop for a boat...I don't know if I'm going to build one yet... the plans were only $58 and it will keep me entertained for a while so I purchased them and gave them to my wife to wrap up for my Christmas present..:D. At the least I think I'll build a 1":1' scale model just to see if I can get it out of my system... but truth be told... I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time now. I'm also really in love with Reuel Parker's San Juan Sharpie, it would be a lot to trailer but doable.

Just this past weekend, I finished a 32' x 16' Stimson Bow Roof shed for a workshop so it would seem that I'm on my way to some kind of crazy.

The prototype was named the seafever. Here is a link to the seafever's web diary for the trip they took to the Bahamas. The photographs are amazing and it looks like the adventure of a lifetime..... all in a boat that weighs 2500# with the ballast tanks empty...

You'll have to click through each day's entry. Not all of them have photos but many do.

Is Dano a member of this forum? Seems like a real straight shooting guy. Sent him a deposit and the bal due when I go after her.

Gary, it looks like you will be going through the Minneapolis area. You are welcome to go for a sail in my Macgregor 23 Chiquita if she is in the water then. I usually launch the first part of May.

I may take the north path, then east. The seller said that was better roads. I would like to drop the boat on the great lakes and sail for a day, so we will see. I think the prudent thing to do would be wait till I get her home and give her a through going over in the yard before I put her in the water. I think she needs bottom paint. Who knows what else.
