Guys,
For the survey I spoke about, I had my friend read the thread top to bottom to get his honest opinion of any degradation he saw directed at gays. His opinions may surprise some.
YVR & Skip touched on some other good reasons why some took offense. Core values & progressive thinking being the main reasons for their objections. I can understand this. Some "set in your ways of thinking", some thinking anew.
Back when, family values, religious beliefs & misunderstanding of alternative lifestyles formed our core values. This is not to say was right or wrong but, as time changes, it also changes us. Some more slowly than others, some never.
A person can have the same level of morals, compassion, honestly etc. that has absolutely nothing to do with their sexual preferences or religious/non-religious thinking . We grow up a product of our environment. As we age & gain more wisdom & experience, some of our beliefs may change. Then, there are those who's core values remain the same & will not change. It's simply their personal preference & that's their right.
There is no right or wrong here in what some hold onto & some that change. Each has the same right to his/her thoughts on the straight/gay issue or, any issues for that matter. Saying this here's the feedback my friend wanted me to post. He read the whole thread & remember, he is gay. This is what he said.
He spoke while I typed. And I quote:
"I thought the thread was a hoot. I liked when the colorful sails came on the market in the '80's, it had a jazzed-up look. I then started reading posts where some took offense to the gay thing. What I don't understand are the different reasons why they felt this way.
To me, it broke down to people of core beliefs their whole life that have a problem with an alternative lifestyle that religion say is against God's teaching. Others, having a more progressive approach may feel a need to defend another's rights if trampled. I understand both sides. None are wrong, it's their preference. I would have liked to see it remain comical though."
