Here is my galley. I use a garden sprayer for rinsing dishes and clorox bottles for water storage. I made it lightweight using skin and bones construction. Applied the KISS principle in it's design. Two dish pans store in the lower right side with my tea kettle for heating water. On the left lower side is my cutting board, cast iron fry pan, 3 stainless nesting pots, 4 plastic plates, 1quart canning jar and paper plates. Upper left is the silverware can opener etc.., upper right is spices. Also the side tables flip down for storage. Thinking about replacing the funnel drain with a recessed small sink to empty dish pans in.

That's pretty neat and you've clearly thought out your design. nice.

By what means do you "hold" the assembly in place - or is it strictly a "when at anchor" setup? And also, what material or mechanism is there to allow the assembly to "slide" back under the bulkhead - and back out when it's time for dinner again?

BTW, outstanding job !

It slides under when sailing. See it under the TV.

I decided against drawers because they always seem clumsey to use. Also they add unnecessary weight. I knew what I wanted to store in it. So I designed my galley around it. The top of my stove clears by 1/2 inch when slide in. It was easy to make. Just cut out the rectangles from thin birch, cut oak wood strips and glue it to the edges and glue/nail together. I love to cook and we eat well on my boat. I also mount a grill to the rail.

For now, PB&J on white - will be the meal d'jour.

Once I see how seaworthy and functional all the rigging and so on are - I'll move on to kitchens, your design being very practical and doing so looks pretty straightforward.

I'll mark this and get back in a month or three when we have ice-out ;-)

nice galley. what are powering your tv with? Inverter?

What size tv, and what are you powering it with? If inverter, what size and what is your battery bank?

Its just like yours! Except yours is alot prettier.

For us pretty will come with age and will always follow function.

Comeon publishers clearing house - knock already!

Agreed on drawers, they are always opening into me. Nicely done! Spices and tv... shouldn't you be roughing it a bit more??!!! ;)

Dgreen & Topcat, I assume all older C-22's have that v-groove slide channel and cast-in funnel arrangement where a galley is implied to go.

It appears neither of you have a mating contour, bottom projection - that would engage the v-groove. I would think the engagement would keep the galley from sliding side to side as well as guide the galley back under the cockpit seat - being bearing like?

I was thinking of cutting a golf ball in half and countersinking a holding screw to the galley base - to engage the v-groove. Or perhaps, a nylon (slippery) carpet bottom with a 1/2" PVC cut lengthwise on a table saw to be a centering galley "keel"?

Am I over-thinking the alignment and sliding thing - or am I on to something?

Specifically:

1. How do you lock the galley in the "stored," under the cockpit seat position and conversely, how do you lock the galley when in the "in use" position?

2. How do you prevent the galley from sliding beam-to-beam-wise - so it stays centered in the area it is designed to fit without some sort of mechanical hold-down or some sort of projection that engages the v-groove?

3. May we assume the FG cast-in drain is not being used because you don't want any gray water going into the ocean/lake?

Re: nice galley. what are powering your tv with? Inverter?

Yes, I have a 400 watt inverter. The TV is LED and uses little power. 5 hours of TV, 2 hours of sun to top off battery. I now have a 2013 Tohatsu Sail Pro to charge with also. Not tested yet. Installed TV for the real Captain of the boat. She is a Gamecock fan. it is nice to get news and weather. Beats NOAA which for me has been mostly wrong.

I am going to build something for mine. They have small sinks for hot dog carts on ebay that would work great. I saw pics of a Potter that someone did online that was amazing. Mine won't be so pretty but I should be able to get something to function. I want to do hot and cold water. Maybe I will put my on demand camping shower on it also. I want to put solar panels on it but for now I have a 900watt generator. Add a 5gal bucket porta potty and I have a live aboard yacht. Look out Beneteau everyone will be selling them to get one of Tony's custom Cals. All for a low price, 1k boat, 500 motor, 100 generator, 300 additional mods. 1900 total and I am ready to take on the world. Look out Bahamas here I come.(oh ya as soon as the ice melts)

I have the original Cat 22 galley. I did not like it because it is too big, too heavy, wastes space. The groove is how it slid. I chose not to add a rectangular strip of wood to the bottom of my galley. It does not slide much. It is not a concern because I am a fair weather sailor. I have heavy weather experience is why. If it was a concern I would probably add eye bolts and bugee or strap it down. It is light. My cast iron frying pan probably weighs more. I used 2 rubbermade containers before. If I sail to the Tortugas I will probably add Eye bolts and a small winch strap. I am going to remove the sink from the old galley and cut out the funnel and add a sink for draining gray water. I plan to use wood blocks on 4 sides of the sink under the fiberglass. I will use flat head screws countersunk through the fiberglass into the wood so my galley will slide over it. Grey water is not an issue where I sail. I prefer to use 2 dishpans for cleaning dishes. 1 to wash and 1 to rinse and dry. The sink will be nice to drain into and for brushing teeth and shaving. The funnel is just to small. I do not care for electric pump faucet which I have used. The Garden Sprayer does not waste water as much and is nearly bullet proof. I consider it one of the greatest things I've added to my boat. Mine holds 2 Gallons. Clorox bottles beat tanked water for drinking, storage and weight distro. I keep one in front of the pottie for easy use and others in the compartment forward of the pottie. The Cat22 likes weight forward, lifts stern out of the water. I also leave the cover off that compartment unless sleeping to ease access to the water. Cover stores pushed forward under the V berth cushions. The sprayer is normally also kept in front of pottie till needed. Bungee cords are also the next greatest thing on my boat. My mast is held by 3, my stays by 1. Simple and quick. I keep a gallon ziplock full. When at home take them off and store out of the sun. Sun destroys them fast.

Water capacity and weight is the problem. 1 tea kettle of hot boiling water added to 2 gallon garden sprayer equals sit down shower for 2 in the cockpit. Less if you clean in salt water then rinse in fresh. Downy removes the salt slime feel. I use Clorox bottles for storage. Fill up the front compartment and put others wherever. Use the front ones last, she sails better weight forward. Use the KISS principal, nothing to break equals less hassle. I also am planning on building a water distiller out of a pressure cooker and 10 feet of coiled copper tubing for emergency water. I use a coleman stove which uses gasoline (long burn time) and reliable. I also made a backpacking woodstove out of a quart paint can. It uses small pieces of driftwood or whatever burns to heat water. I figure it would work on the beach to make water if not available. Water purifiers are expensive. Google it for more info. Cool stuff. I, like you, believe in sailing big in a small boat. I have been sailing mine since 1999.

Single deep cycle is all you need. I think it is 800 CCA. Interior lights LED, TV LED, VHF main, VHF handheld, Transformer PAD 7 hour battery, Running lights NOT LED (Do not sail much in darkness) Laptop and WIFI extender and camframo fan. Since I added my solar panel no issues. Now my outboard will charge battery too. I would not add second battery because of weight. I use all these items and never had a battery issue.

Sorry man....I don't have a Cat 22. I have a Venture but I watch all sliding galley threads. I don't mean to be intrusive.

I've seen photos of your groove and funnel thing and considered it. Went with the plastic tank in the sliding galley instead (the sink is hinged and has a lock down bolt). We have a thru hull with a hose for the original sliding galley but I'm doing away with all of that.

Once its in the boat I have straps downs for it but someday will use a pin system I'm thinking.

Being an energy minimalist we will be using something like a whale foot pump for the fresh water. The electric pump has got to go.

Happy Sails

Take care. My grandparents used to do the same thing, until the night I woke up coughing and my grandmother handed me a glass of bleach!

Luckily what little went down came right back up. :puke:
