Hey dgreen can I ask.....how many watts is your soalr panel and how is it attached to the rail? I just bought 2 - 20 watt panels and I am wondering if that will do the trick and where to put them.

I think it is a 15 watt panel. The type that can be partially shaded and still charge. I bought it at Harbor Freight. I also added the battery minder charge controller battery maintainer. I mostly sail a week or 3 days at a time. It works surprisingly well. I paid around 60ish for it. I don't see this one on their web site any more. I used clamps from Lowes and added wing nuts to the screws. Unfortunately they are not stainless. I have had my panel for about a year. Here is how I did it. It is adjustable up and down by the arm and wing nut. Not corroded too bad yet.

Wow dgreen you are a genuis:) That looks simple and yet meets all the needs of being able to be taken off and installed easily and quickly. So you think a 40 watt total will do the trick? That ought to keep the batteries full right?

Dgreen? IN your one picture of your kitchen set up a few posts back, I see an oil lamp right on the roof by the stove. Do you use that inside your sailboat? If yes, does it leave that black residue on the ceiling? Is that a back up to your lights just in case? Let me know and thanx again for your good ideas!!

Thats great. I didn't know and wasn't sure. I bought 4 x 20 watt panels off of Ebay for $150.00 and I thought 2 on the boat would suffice. I have the other 2 for.....??? extra power just in case :)

I have not used it enough. But I use that candle oil stuff I think and I have not seen any soot. I use it for low light before bed sometimes. Just for relaxing low light really. I have a metal curtain rod hanger that I leave on the pop top joint for hanging it. I also have an old Brooklyn lantern as well as a Coleman LED for extra Anchor light. I have an LED mast anchor light but I hang one of these low as well. I recently upgraded my lighting so I will no longer need to hang an LED light inside.

Wow great deal. I have just started using solar. Maybe a year now. I do not use a lot of power really. Interior lights are LED. I use my handheld VHF and leave the fixed one off mostly. Most trips are 3 days to a week. The TV uses the most but this panel tops it off quickly in the sun. The battery minder works great. I can see when it is charging and when it is full and when it is maintaining the battery. I used the TV for 5 hours and 2 hours of sun the battery was full up. I charge my cell and my tablet mostly. The camframo fan also. I could mount another off the stern or starboard. I just don't use the power. I have a new Garmin GPS/depth finder that I have not tried yet. Will see soon.

Securing tv mounting bracket to companionway

Here is my galley. I use a garden sprayer for rinsing dishes and clorox bottles for water storage. I made it lightweight using skin and bones construction. Applied the KISS principle in it's design. Two dish pans store in the lower right side with my tea kettle for heating water. On the left lower side is my cutting board, cast iron fry pan, 3 stainless nesting pots, 4 plastic plates, 1quart canning jar and paper plates. Upper left is the silverware can opener etc.., upper right is spices. Also the side tables flip down for storage. Thinking about replacing the funnel drain with a recessed small sink to empty dish pans in.
I purchased a c-22 in baja before I came back to the states, it's still down there. I've purchased two swivel mounting brackets like the one you use for your tv, to mount stereo speakers that can be directed, where I'd like.

My question- Is the companionway bullhead thick enough to anchor the screws for the bracket in, or do you have to through bolt them?

Thanks, Dan

I attached a piece of teak wood to the companionway trim using the same screw hole (longer screw) used to mount the trim and mounted the bracket to that.
