I was out looking at my new (to me ) keel and i noticed that the cable eye bolt is not in line with the lengthwise back edge of the keel. I'm sure this is not good for the cable and less good for the pivoting action needed to provide long cable life. What methods has/is anyone using to align this cable pin bolt? Any and all ideas welcome.

Is your misalignment like the image below? Not sure I have the right mental picture of where your keel bolt is out of whack-- but as you can see from the damage to the cable assembly, anything less than parallel will cause you some grief. In my case-- removal of the old eyebolt, retapped the hole to allow for alignment (did not need to drill to get any additional threads) and replaced with the updated eyebolt from CD. Also had to clean up the mating surface as seen in pic 2.

Forgot to mention that once tapped-- filled the hole with unthickened epoxy and ran the tap through again to help seal the threads-- also install the new bolt with Loctite (blue)

Yes thats it but skewed to about a 45 degree angle. So it will need just less than a quarter turn to line up properly. I was considering running a bottom tap to reclaim any space in the hole for extra threads or maybe a stainless shim or something else if suggested.

As well as loctite, should there also be an antisieze to fight corrosion?

Conventional wisdom says that Loctite blue will seal your threads sufficiently to stave off corrosion.

I keep Hoosier Daddy in a slip in Masoulina Bayou for only $150 per month. It's shaded and very protected. There's one more slip available next to me. If you want the number of the owner let me know. It would be great to have you next door!

Keep an eye out for Officer Obie though on the water and the road , PC Bch is kind of strict, cranky during spring break.

Well after having a thanksgiving dinner that just couldn't be beat, I wound up under my boat in the backyard and looking intently at the keel bolt mounts. They looked like they were empty, so I'm thinking,
"woohoo, dodged a bullet there!" and I go into the shed and dig out a 5/16-18 tap to run in the threads, only to discover that yes I dodged a bullet but have been hit by a bomb! All of the weldments have either damaged or nonexistant threads. Meaning that I am now going to need to replace all four.

Oh well, more fun for me.......yeah.

Geoff are weldments you are talking about that are fiberglassed into the bottom of hull that swing pin fits into i might still have them can't really remember if i took them out before scrapping hull or not but if you have to replace them you got a major job!!! mike I will look they are are in another building will look and let you know can't drill oversize and tap??

That was my first thought but according to several "official" sources there isn't enough wall thickness to support an oversized fastener or even a helicoil. As far as the replacement goes I think it will be difficult mainly because I am not a small guy (6'2 & 275) and the interior of a c22 is not very large. The actual job shouldn't be too bad and it think I would rather go back with new pieces than used. Now if you have a left over winch that might be repairable feel free to send it on over, or any other keel related hardware.

Geoff do not have the fiberglassed in piece do have brass bushing and pin that bolts on did not take out glassed piece as looked like a bear to get out looks like it would be a real job to replace and get right that fiberglass is really thick in that area all ready sold the winch have a catalina 25 coming in next week will prob be to big for your 22 Mike
