Hoping for one more good sailing weekend, then down the Chicago River (one lock and 24 draw bridges), winterizing and haul out on October 19th. :wahwah::wahwah::wahwah:

30 cm of snow in Brandon, 70 miles east of here
:yikes: I really have to watch the news more often. 30 cm of snow in Brandon yet nothing here yet ?
Our boat won't be in storage until next weekend (of when I finish sewing my new cover)
But I have no sympathy for anyone who sailed this year. :kick: Our boat sat on a trailer all summer.

Well, I know how you feel. I have mine hauled out until the next time I wish to go sailing. Heading down to Key West in a couple two to three weeks. Come on down, the temps should be in mid to high 80's today.

It's all a matter of latitude. Here at 27° we are coming into the best sailing of the year.
And about time, too! The heat has finally given way to drier air and good winds here at lat. 28. Had a great sail on Sunday. Winds 10- 15 and hardly saw less than 6 knots all day. To all our frozen northern friends, come on down. I'm sure any number of us would love to have you as crew. Hurray for winter! :)
p.s. Bring your boat babes, also.

Tempting. I usually head south several times during the winter to sail/coach with friends. Best offer so far has been from Laurent, who keeps his First 260 in the the Îles d'Hyères off the French Riviera. Perversely, they are at the same latitude (45N) as Minneapolis. Go figure.

We may not be the French Riviera but, if you are ever in the West Central Florida area, give a holler. You won't need your foulies or your parka. You will need your sunscreen.

I feel your pain, I am just south in Calgary and had a lot of chores planned for the boat this past long weekend before tucking it in. Instead I shoveled the snow off of it a couple of times and went back inside just too disgusted to work out in the freezing temps. I'd be heading south to FL if it weren't for that pesky work thing. Hard to believe we were out just a couple of weeks ago for one of the nicest sails of the season!

Not too bad in St. Croix either. Need to clean the bottom at the end of October for the St. Croix International Regatta.

This was Saturday night after we put her back at the dock from Hurricane Mathew. Currently 83° today We may haul out in January to do some bottom work since the weather will be cool enough to not sweat to death sanding and painting.

Macgregor 26s TRAILERABLE
Need a boat cover? I bought a tarp from Carolina Tarps for my mac 26. 30' X 16' for $442.00 plus shipping. 6mil vinyl with grommets every 18". That is long enough to cover the mast end to end and over the sides to the trailer wheel fenders . I cut tennis balls to fit over the lifeline stanchions and covered the bow and stern pulpits with water pipe foam insulation. It ain't pretty but what boat under cover for the off season is?

Flip side of the coin here. We were the ONLY boat anchored in the Tobago Cays this week and Chatham Bay, Union Island was also deserted. Few restaurants are open in Port Elizabeth, Bequia and I could count the transient boats in the anchorage with both hands and have some fingers left over.
Almost like it was 30 years ago.
Oh, give it about 60 days and you will have lots of friends out on the Cays!

I hear ya. It's getting into the lower 50s here these days with some rain. I'm a bit jealous of those lower latitudes. Then again they don't get to snowshoe or ski in the mountains 45 minutes from home.

Its that time of the year where we have to put our boats to winter sleep. I actually pulled my boat out a few weeks ago, cause she sustained some damage and she is at the body shop now.
We had snow here yesterday and it is outright miserable today. freezing, wind blowing, flurry's you name we got it.

So I guess for the next 8 months we will be desk sailing, hanging out here with SBO .

Hope every one has a great winter.
You need to move...
