Tape? I used the prep, primer for acrylic to aluminum contact and the adhesive. I did two large 2x2 and a smaller hatch. Adhered the panels then filled in after.I shopped around a bit and got the cost for the Sika system down to $85 exclusive of the tape. Are there any alternatives to the tape? The only supply I could find on the web was in Latvia on Ebay and it wouldn't arrive until APRIL 23rd at the earliest, which won't work
If I can solve the tape issue and if anyone needs some soonish let me know and I will be happy to share the 205 and 209. You'll need to use it in a few weeks. Hazmat shipping I expect. You'll need your own tube(s) of 295-UV. I'll probably order around the 17th.
I often seen sunbrella used as a bonnet, so to speak, that you put on when the boats not in use. I see this most often on Florida boats, or boats that spend a lot of time in the tropics. I've seen them where the sides have a bungee cord in them so they just kind of snap in place and I've seen them with grommets and a line run through them so you can tighten them in place. I'd probably do the later, although both work, and not worry about the tape.My fwd hatch is tinted acylic and is curved. The boat is 50 years old the lens has never been replaced and is in good condition because I carry the dinghy over it. That keeps the UV off and I can open it in the rain. My fwd bunk is there. Good arrangement. Just my 2 c.
I didn’t run across that in my research. I made hatch covers that are on 99% of the time so no issue for me.The system requires a tape to protect the primer and adhesive from UV.
See last page of the Sika document I put the link to:I didn’t run across that in my research. I made hatch covers that are on 99% of the time so no issue for me.
I wouldn't worry too much about this, but, you can get this tape - this one would probably be fine. Haven't used it, can't vouch for it...The system requires a tape to protect the primer and adhesive from UV.
If you are using UV filtering cast acrylic you don't need the tape. That's only for lenses that allow greater UV transmission. UV filtering polycarbonate also the same...I shopped around a bit and got the cost for the Sika system down to $85 exclusive of the tape. Are there any alternatives to the tape?
