Are you really suggesting that people add belaying pins to modern fiberglass sailboats??
Something like that, sure. If they make sense, why get hung up on their quaintness? I hadn't given much thought about what to do with lines coming to the cockpit until now and the bag doesn't make as much sense as belaying pins. I might make some modifications to make them easier to pull under load. They are neat, easy to use, unlikely to come unraveled in a knockdown and I can make them myself.
Oh yeah, and useful for repelling pirates and other unwanted boarders.

I’m not hung up on their quaintness, I’m thinking about their impracticality. For all intents and purposes, they are deck cleats mounted sideways. They take up a lot of space. Better solutions exist. But of course YBYC.

All those hooks and pins just seem like something to cause injury when you loose your balance from an unexpected wave or wind change. Seems like one would be asking for trouble.

I love the pin rails, maybe I’m a bit biased. Most of the boats I worked on, including the racing schooner had pin rails around the base of the mats. Such a satisfying feeling ripping the pin out of the rail to drop the line in a heat beat.

To be fair, this was not a fiberglass boat someone added pins to haha, it was built that way

You could tether the pin to the rack so you don't loose the pin.
On second thought, no you can't. You would end up with the line coiled around the tether. Maybe a good organizer bag to hold the pins.

What about these.

Sheet bags seem to attract more spiders than ropes.

I tried these last year to organize my lines on the bulkhead and they work pretty well. My mainsheet bundle is too big for one of these, but halyard, traveler lines, outhaul, etc. work fine.

Not as salty as the ones pictured, but simple to use (and you can move them if you decide you don’t like the location).

I,don’t have any photos of them mounted, but they hold lines well.

I coil my lines like that and do fight hockles. What's the solution?
Allow the lines to figure 8. If the lines get messed go sailing, and toss the tails overboard while sailing, not motoring. The lines will straighten out and then coil them and let them figure 8.
