Ah Ha! I checked "Preferences" and found no joy. Now it is clearer. If the eyeball has said "Watched Forum" instead of just "Watched" it would have been obvious even to me.

If the eyeball has said "Watched Forum" instead of just "Watched" it would have been obvious even to me.
It can also indicate a watched thread, either selected to be watched or based on participation. So it's doing double duty.

I just activated a new posts list on the main forum menu page; it's very simple but may help track new posts and activity.

This morning in my inbox I got what appears to be an email notification from sailboaowners.com regarding a thread post I had subscribed to. It was obvious that it was in fact it was spam. It was similar to what I get when a friends email has been hacked. Has anyone else received one of these ?
Bob
I pasted it below:
{ Edit by admin: I have removed the links and text to the offending post... having that stuff in our forum is the result they want. }

It was just a standard system notification of a post (spam post) in a forum you're following.

We have added some additional measures to block human spammers.

Phil, I personally HATE the latest change. Having the most recent posts at the top might make a majority of the posters happy but I am not one of them. I somehow managed to mark all posts as read even though I only wanted to mark one forum read. I don't think it was a problem of too much rum. Although I will admit that might have played a role in the fiasco. But having to go to each of the forums afterwards and deciphering which posts needed to be read was kinda frustrating.

Thanks for letting me vent about this.

Would you care to share with us why you feel this way?

Sorry Wayne, I really don't mean to cause any frustration.

I think I'm missing the connection between the new posts at the top of the screen and marking all posts as "read." The Recent Posts list shouldn't have any bearing on that, unless I'm missing something... which is certainly possible.

The idea is to have dynamic content on the main screen. When you think about it, there's not much logic in having the forum home page be static when what everyone is trying to get to, one way or another, is the new content. If you're trying to get to a particular forum you can use the Quick Nav (upper right). It is quick. That said, let me know if I am missing the point. That seems to happen a little more every year...

No, I figure I did something wrong last night. But somehow I managed to mark all the new posts as read from the new front page. I don't know how I did it and I haven't figured out how to repeat the event. More research is needed. LOL

What the schmuck. The forum list seems to have been supplanted by the new posts list, and doesn't want to be changed back. Chances are it's all operator error, but it's most distressing. :)

I "do" a lot of different forums on a daily basis.

For some reason, like humanity, everyone approaches dealing with a forum website differently.

Wow, who woulda thunk?

But for goodness sake, this forum has so many OPTIONS for viewing, it is really good, great even.

To keep it simple, when the format was IMPROVED, I figured out how to see "All Forums, All Discussions" and use the legacy click.

I miss nothing.

I don't miss a thing.

What's so hard?

Nothing that about 8 solid hours without oncoming headlights wouldn't fix. :)

Well, I set up SBO to show me just the forums I wanted to see. Hide/Unhide was a great idea. So how do I hide "Recent Posts" on the forums index page as it shows me posts from forums I have no interest in (at this time)?

You can't hide it, but really, it's no different than showing you a list of forums you have no interest in, right? :)

Edit: You can also access the forum from a bookmark of:
http://forums.sailboatowners.com/index.php?find-new/19157/posts

That will take you directly to the new posts page with the content you have selected, without posts from the forums you don't want to view. And it lets you completely bypass the front page of the forum.

Go to any user's profile page: click on their username, then click Profile Page. You'll see a tab for Media -- all of your images -- and albums, which is the same stuff but organized into albums. Or, you can click the big Media tab in the nav bar and see the latest uploads. I believe you can also search for user's media there.

Is there some way to do this now?

Yes, it's just one click deeper. Click the username, then click User Profile. The second or third tab over, at the top, is Postings. I used that link to get here. :)
