Hi Phil, so what is the deal with this "Please read guidelines before posting" business? Did I miss something?
Hi Terry, that used to be in a post that was stuck up to the top of the forum list, we just moved it down near the posting form where it makes more sense and you don't have to scroll past it every day. :) Is its placement blocking or overlapping some other element?

doesnt seem like I have the spell check anymore
We've never had that on the server side so it was probably a plug-in to your browser. If you use Chrome check out Grammerly. Not sure if it is available for other browsers, but it is free and terrific.

I use iSpell, easy download, works on ALL browsers & forums.

Phil, It doesnt seem like I have the spell check anymore... I thought it was here, but I notice that when I misspell a word, it does not underline it in red like it used to in the old format... do I need to turn something on to get it activated?....

No. It just seemed to give the appearance of my post breaking some rule, or some such thing. No worries, I'll just ignore it. Thanks for your follow-up.

Thanks, but don't ever confuse the two. :badbad::kick:

I spent the day with a new dockmate, teaching her how to get her boat in and out of her slip and learning "the prop walk three point turn."

Newport 30 with an electric engine.

Quiet.

Hmmm...............

Lotsa fun.

Pay it forward. :clap::clap::clap:

this is a god send ...stu told me about about 3 or 4 years ago...actually it's a stu send

Being able to turn off the iPhone checker would be nice.

That, and (with all due respect) there are a LOT of words that are spelled differently on each side of the 49th, and we won't even start in on Quebec today.

ADVANCED SEARCH

Phil, just stumbled on it - doesn't take me long, does it? :yikes:

Anyway, I don't see a box to type in author. Am I missing it?

This is a copy of our old VB search, in which you enter everything in one field then select where you want it to search in the next column: I believe the options are title/message/author, or just author, or just title title. Something like that.

You wouldn't have stumbled on that tab until today, I just added it this morning. :)

OK, but the issue is, if you go there, there is NO BOX to type in the author's name. There used to be in the old one.

Oh, you're right, over in the right column there was a field to filter the results by author. Now you can just enter the username in the search field along with your keywords. If you really want to get tricky, do that and also select "sort by relevancy." That returns this the data attached.

Let me know if that combo isn't flexible or accurate enough, though.

Phil,

I agree with this, except it didn't work for me to get those results by typing in "anchor Stu Jackson" --- nothing showed up.

However, I did find this handy gem when that didn't work, called "New Expanded Search" and it only came up when the results of that didn't work.

So, maybe you could switch the Advanced Search link from the drop down black with white lettering from the old, unfortunately truncated search to what appears to be exactly the old format advanced search.

Again, I got there by doing a search with a name as you suggested, which showed No Results, then in blue lettering below the No Results was: New Expanded Search.

Please let me know, and thanks again for all your help, here and elsewhere. Hi to Dave, too.

Only issue is that this one doesn't have the relevancy and the results show up as if one is looking at a forum, rather than the "old' Table of Results per your screenshot, I didn't get that "page" as a reult.

I've got to clean up the labels on these, there is some old verbiage left over and it's confusing.
The search with the tabs for media, etc., is the built-in Xenforo search, and it's fairly awful. It does search everywhere but has few controls and doesn't always seem to return relevant results.

The "old style" search that I am calling "Advanced Search" (also tied to the search bar in nav header outside of the forums) is going to get much better results. I'll take a look at all that today.

"anchor Stu Jackson" That's why you didn't find it. :) There wasn't enough scope.

A few days ago I started having a problem on Safari with my iPhone 5S (iOS 9.1). Despite having the box checked that told it to remember my log in information, the site was requiring me to enter my user name and password whenever I would go to it. If I did not log in, I could still read the forums but only as someone who was not logged in. So it would not show which posts were new, etc. Logging in would again put everything right but the log in information would not be retained when I would go to the site later. I do not have this problem when using my laptop (Windows 7). What would cause this problem all of a sudden?
