The reports that Florida might get cold in the winter are highly exaggerated. we do get cold fronts and they usually come in on a 3 day schedule. The first day it gets windy and may bring light rain, the second day the temps may dip into the 40s for a few hours with highs in the 60's and by the third day the winds shift from the North to the East and the temperatures rebound to highs in the 70s. We usually get a respite of one or two days between fronts. The cold fronts just open the door to North winds but as soon as they shift the warmth returns right away. The homes here are comparatively poorly insulated and mostly electric heated so we get to feel a chill but is nice knowing that in a couple of days it will be warm again. There have been exceptions with temps in the 20s and there have been years when the warmth never leaves.

Come now ................... your idea of a cold spell is our idea of a heat wave :cry:.
There are a few issues in the keys.
housing is unaffordable for most keys hourly service staff
Many commute from homestead (many hotels run shuttle buses for cleaning crews),
And a lot of others buy the cheapest boat that floats, (or doesnt) drive it into the magroves and live aboard, with direct potty discharge.
pollution was always the main excuse for enforcement.

I do tend to agree with the heavy badge mentality of the FWC (and other marine sheriff or PD depts)
never had any problems w/ USCG, or the National park patrols.
