Hi Folks,

We are on new used boat and first trip off the dock the house bank is dead/dying. They are original so 6 plus years old. Can't get the same batteries here (in Annapolis currently) Anyone had to replace these stock batteries and if so what worked/fit??

Thanks!!

What size are the original? Are they labeled as 4D, group 31 or anything like that?

Measure the dimensions of the batteries, then go to the auto parts store if they’re 12 volt, and replace them. Not sure where the best place would be to get 6 volt golf cart batteries. At least that would be a start.

Roger,
With a new to you boat, and your sailing experience from previous boats over the past 18 years, I wonder how complex the new boat systems are that you need to look for OEM - Stock like batteries?

In Annapolis you could likely pull up to the local marina and just ask any deck hand about sourcing batteries.

We would love to see pictures of your new girl.

Congratulations on your new boat!!

Please post are these for the house, the current number of batteries (4 as shown below from the attached manual?), manufacturer, voltage (6, 12, etc.), type (lead acid, AGM, gel, lithium), group (24, 27, 31, 4D, etc.), amp-hours (140 as shown below?), dimensions, budget and any proposed upgrade preferences/requirements then the forum can make recommendations on where to source them.

sfbay - yes they are the 4 beneath the companion way, house set. The issue is that the boat was made in France and they used European Exide ES1350 (4) AGMs and the difficulty is finding batteries here (4 of them) to fit in the space. Sorry i was not more specific with question folks! The 4D AGMs at WM and Fawsetts are different sized and may only be able squeeze 3 in without modifying the space. Just curious what worked for other Beneteau 48 owners.

John - yes you would think in Annapolis! Parts and especially service help are very rare commodities these days. AGMs at near 150 lb each are not ideal for me handle either. And yes, man has got to know his limitations!

Thanks! Yes i found those also - the issue is to get 4 of those into the existing space is going to require some modifications I believe. I may just have to live with that fact. Thanks again! Cheers

Thanks for the picture. She is a grand looking vessel.

Perhaps looking at this issue from the size of the space would be more productive than looking at the battery to match.

Unless you search out Exide and see if they can ship you a European sized battery match.

The ES1350 (@120 Ah), the ET950 (@135 Ah), the ER660 (@140 Ah) and the EP1200 (@140 Ah) appear to be the 4 batteries they made in that size configuration.

Here is the BCI chart of battery sizes most frequently used in the US.. https://www.deepcyclemarinebattery.com/bci-battery-groups.html
I could not find a match.

I would think the vertical height of the space to be the most limiting when seeking a battery fix.

The batteries you have are similar in size to the 4D. Some lifeline 4ds might fit in that same space. Also the lifelines are sealed so they can be ordered online and shipped.

Exide: Dimensions: 513mm x 189mm x 223mm

Lifeline 4D:
Length in. (mm)20.76" (527.4mm)
Width in. (mm)8.7" (221mm)
Height in. (mm)8.64" (219.5mm)
