Oops dunno where my head was. I'll blame it on the medication after the root canal.

Maybe the dentist should have used a step drill bit. They seem to come highly recommended.

He had to drill through a fresh crown and was in there up to his elbows so maybe that would have been easier.

Well... it is in a difficult place (amid a ton of wires that I don't want to disconnect). OTOH: y'all had me at "step bit".

All done: very quick and easy with the step drill bit in the aluminum panel. Found some "step-down" crimp connectors to go from the 12 gauge to the much-smaller-than-12 that came with the USB port. Thanks for the advice (which, admittedly, probably didn't require 47 postings. But clearly entertainment is one aspect of this forum!)
