How to change cutless on a boat with no strut? Options: remove stern tube altogether? Remove shaft?

Ask the boatyard for help. They should have the special tools to do the job swiftly and properly.

Still one wants to know. Mostly because no boat yard within many miles

Without removing the shaft I would guess? There is some exposed. Would that be enough for a pipe wrench or large locking pliers (vise grips)? If you can get it to start rotating it may work out. Clamp on to it close to the stern tube where you could lever it out a bit at a time.

I bet you'll be removing the prop and shaft and use a puller or cut the cutlass bearing lengthwise. It looks like the bearing is the 1st step up from the prop shaft.

Mine had me stumped as well. Had 4 bolts. Removed them and nothing. I finally figured out it was screwed into the shaft log. The bolts kept it from un-screwing itself! cutlass

My Albin Vega has the same type of arrangement, only the bearing isn't screwed into the log like @bletso. I just remove the prop, remove the two retaining bolts, and the bearing comes right off.
