So the M-25XPB uses the Oberdorfer N202M-16 with no alterations. Is this correct?

It seems when you start getting into different models and sizes of Catalinas it all goes hay wire.

Thanks for the feed back guys your the best.:D
NO!!!

No model from Oberdorfer will fit the M-25XPB stock.

You will have to alter the base as I have shown. I have been talking with another 310 owner up here how did the alteration in an afternoon just as I did. If you want the better performing pump, order the Oberdorfer N202M-16. You can use the fittings from your Sherwood pump for the hose connections but you will need to cut off part of the base so it can fit on the motor.

Just finished the new pump installation. Modifying the base of the pump was easy, the hard part was getting the new bolt hole in the perfect location. Using the Kubota gasket made a great template. It is p/n 16264-88130 and was about two dollars from a tractor store. While I had it apart, I took the heat exchanger to the radiator shop for a good cleaning and pressure test. With the heat exchanger removed it was a great time to do a transmission oil change. Replaced all the hoses and she is all back together.

I have a M-25XPB in my 2005 C-310. The Sherwood G908 raw water pump drips when the engine is running. It must be rebuilt or replaced. I plan to keep the boat for a long time and am looking to replace. I've spent some time today talking with DepcoPump and Oberdorfer.

The Oberdorfer N202M-16 (O-ring) may or may not bolt directly on, depending on small differences in configuration. Most probably a flange grind modification and bolt hole elongation will be required. Depcopump sells the -16 for around $270.
You can find it a bit cheaper if you look around on the web, but you need to know exactly what you are looking for.
http://www.depcopump.com/MarineCatalog111/MarineCatalog111.html#/138/

The Sherwood G-908 is $270.49
http://www.marinepartssource.com/ne...8&mfg=SHERWOOD&mfgno=G908&desc=Raw Water Pump

The Sherwood G908 rebuild kit is $230.12.
http://www.pumpvendor.com/Sherwood_G908_G-908.html

Recently out from Oberdorfer is the N202M-908. This is supposed to be a direct drop in replacement for the Sherwood G908, with a flange that matches the Sherwood G908 mounting pattern (two bolts). Depcopump sells this for $352.80. I got this information from both Jim at Depcopump marine sales, 800-446-1656 x222 and from Oberdorfer Technical dept, 800-448-1668. This pump is supposed to be able to accept the Sherwood hose connectors (like the -16) without modification. However, it is hard to pin down either Depcopump or Oberdorfer on this.

So, for a delta of $120, you can get a drop in, or do the grinder thing. Your choice. I guess it is all a matter of how handy you are (and if you can access a grinder)

BTW, by admission of both Oberdorfer and Decopump, their on-line catalogs and items descriptions are a bit dated. I've not found the N202M-908 discussed at either location.

Hope this helps.

No, I've not decided which way to go.

Just did a quick google search for "n202-908" and found some info on the Ericson Yachts page.
Showed some pictures of the pump. Looks to be a direct replacement for the Sherwood, no modification required. Like you I plan on keeping the boat for a while and am very happy with the Oberdorfer pump.

Once again the 202-16 will not fit the Xpb engine with out modification.

I forgot to add this nugget of information gleaned from Decopump.
The Sherwood G908 remains in production but all output goes directly to Westerbeke, who put their own part number on it, along with a price increase. Given the price, Westerbeke seems to be very proud of this pump!

When existing vendor stocks of the G908 are exhausted, Westerbeke will be the only source.

I think that is why Oberdorfer is charging a premium for the N202M-908 over the N202M-16, which, excepting the mounting flange, are supposed to be the same pump.

If this was me I would consider getting the N202M-16. It's about half the price and only takes about an hour to modify the base to fit on our blocks.

I think your right JK. I've looked until my fingers blead and could find a single supplier up here.

As I recall there is an outfit in Milton that handles Oberdorfer. Possibly another near Leamington. Let me rack my brain for a bit... I am driving my basket of %EUR?¥#$@& transmission parts out there tomorrow

I was reading the article about replacing the Sherwood with the Oberdorfer Pump. Within the topic thread it was mentioned that a Oberdorfer N203M-16 pump be used. Then further on in the thread it is mentioned to use the Oberdorfer N202M-16. Could this be clarified. Which is it. Cheers 2 Old Pirates

Have just installed the Oberdorfer N202M16 in my engine, a M-25XPB (Hull No.149)replacing the Sherwood. It is the model with the O-ring and 1/2 “ ports and 5 bolt holes. The attachment plate has to be cut/ground down to a 2 bolt hole fit – no big deal. I found the photos of JK Boston and those in Stu Jackson’s links of great help as a guide.
I believe, that Oberdorfer now also offers a pump at a higher price that needs no modification.

.................and more Kudos for Oberdorfer:
At this opportunity I should also mention my rewarding experience with Oberdorfer/Gardner Denver.

When I ordered my first Oberdorfer from Catalina Direct, it arrived with a serious crack in each of the ports. Catalina Direct replaced the pump with a new one, after I had to pay for this and its shipping cost. I then had to send the old one back at my cost, which due to some postal complications doubled my shipping cost to over A$120. Only after this, C.D. then refunded me the cost of the original pump and its freight cost. So, I am still over A$120 out of pocket.

Meanwhile, as all this took a while, I contacted Oberdorfer with a picture of the faulty product. They were very concerned and said that a product in such a state would never leave their factory. As a gesture of goodwill they send me a new pump within a week free of all charges. That’s what I call service!

The"C" is for Catalina. I guess they made some minor mods for Catalina. At least that is what my local dealer said.
The Universal "XP*(C)" engines have just a little switcher-oo tweak to the engine wiring schematic that CTY had requested. Otherwise, the engines are identical to the "non- (C)" Universals.

What makes me laugh is that Oberdorfer has acknowledge that there is a need for the 908 and also must know that the 16 is being altered.
My question is to them is, wouldn't you sell a hell-of-a-lot more 908s if you brought the price more in line with the 16s ? DAH !!!
Outside of the base there is NO difference between the 908 and 16.:yikes:
I know I sure wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Cheers

If they reduced the price, they would certainly capture the entire market. However they are just following the huge price increase on the Sherwood since Westerbeke decided to buy their entire output.
