Great Boats All !!

I've sailed and raced all of them. The 40 is a 34 on steroids. Very comfortable and seaworthy. Of course, everything gets more expensive as the size goes up. The 35.5 is, in my opinion, the fastest of the 3. The 34 is the most affordable and is a solid performer. Plesae, Please, John post that picture of the '89 rendezvous.....everyone including Fred would love to see it!!!!!!!

John, I took your advice and looked at a 97 35 yesterday and will look at a 89 on Thursday. I can not find performance number on the 35 is it fair to say they will be the same as the 35.5? Are there compression post issues with this type layout? Any 35 owners out there with thoughts like, dislikes etc.

JOE,

If you mean the ('97 35) 356, the answer is no. The 35.5 and the 356 have nothing in common. The 35.5 and the older 35 are basically the same boats with different interior layouts.

The "performance numbers" (you mean capsize ratio, etc. ?) for the L-35 should be within 0.01 or so of the 35.5. There are figures such as length, beam, displacement, etc. on this web site if you start at the tabs on the Hunter home page. Thanks

Thanks John these number are not in the performance rating area this help. I like the idea of no compression post issues just read two repair posting and do not want to do that. I am not that handy

RE: Hunter Legend 35

I simply replaced my teeny weeny holding tank with a 30 gallon in the stbd. lazarette. There was still plenty of room for my super-sized carcass to slide in and out for maintennance for lazarette buried items, (AC, plumbing, exhaust and such). I have had to replace my cabin sole on what I've been told was probably the last Legend 35 made before the 35.5 rolled out. There's also an '87 Legend 35 across from me with what appears to be a somewhat taller mast when we raft up together... You will not regret the L-35 acquisition... Happy New Year's Eve Eve to everyone here!

In checking out the photos of the related web site, I see what looks like an L35 with a masthead spinnaker halyard. The couple that own the boat, Resolute, are Keith & Barbara Sugg. Do you know these folks and can you confirm what I think I'm seeing?

My post errata and Masthead?

With regard to my previous post I'd like to make a clarification with regard to a statement I made. After reading it again I find it could be confusing: "Caution - some of the figures are in error. For instince, water gallons is 65, etc." The "Caution" above is with regard to the Hunter web site info for the 35: The web site lists water capacity as 24 gallons where as it is actually 65 gallons, The fuel is listed as 24hp where as it is actually 25 gallons, The Auxiliary Power is listed as 24 gallons where as it is a 3GM30 which is 24hp. re Masthead spinnaker? If that's true, hey, that would be interesting! Especially for flying a 0.5oz chute! Wow! That's what I would like on our light-air days.

Hey John,

.....how about a masthead Akite with its tack flying off a 5' bowsprit. That's what I'm in the process of setting up. Before I saw that picture of the L35, I thought I was the first to think up the idea. If this works, our boats will be able to sail almost as deep as a symetrical chute and with better boat speed. I'm sure my rating is going to take a hit, but it looks like it would be worth it.

If You've Got The Mast - Use It !!!

Asymetrical with a bowsprit? That sounds GREAT! For racing one has some kind of crew so while this might not be a husband-wife sail plan it would make a great racing setup. Like you say, it all depends on how hard they smack you with the handicap. I think it would be a lot of fun because it would be only a fairly light-air option and that tall mast could be put to work to capture that wind aloft. Design-wise one would be wise to install a jackstay to take side loads. Since the asymetrical is more of an off-the-wind sail this would be a almost a must. To say "you'll only fly it in light winds" could go by the wayside when you need that extra tenth of a knot on the race course. The 35.5 Liberty Cup boats came standard issue with a jackstay. Boy! Just think of all the square feet one could hang up there!!! WOW! Need crew?

Jackstay??

Using a masthead akite on an articulating sprit will allow me to sail deep. In a true wind of say 20kts, the aparent will be about 10 to 13 and decrease as the boat builds speed and the AW moves forward allowing me to sail deeper still. This sail is used for an AW of 165 to 120. After that my reaching akite, which is 7/8, is launched. I'm not sure I understand about a 'jackstay' on the Liberty Cup boats. I've got everthing they have and more, or at least, I thoght I did. Please explain me.
