For those relating optimum twist angles, I just opened my North Sails sail trim app which has an optimum trim tool bringing the boat to targets at various velocities and angles. It is based on a J/105 I think and to date I have found no reason to dispute the findings on it. A couple of scenarios are below:
-6 kts wind speed best upwind target is 45.6 TWA and 4.8 kts Boat speed with 7.1 twist in the main.
-8 kts - 43.1 TWA - 5.4 boat speed - 7.8 twist
-12 kts - 41.6 TWA - 6.2 kts boat speed - 7.2 twist
-16 kts - 43.3 TWA - 6.7 - 13.4 twist
Given where I sail, I am often struggling to deal with less breeze than the lowest it will go (6kts). Probably the twist would increase at lighter velocities in the tool if it went there.
