I presently have a 13x13 2 blade fixed prop on my C30. Engine is an M25XP. I'd like to obtain better performance under motor power. When pulling my dingy and having a lot of crew onboard I have difficulty reaching 5.5 knots, I feel I have plenty of power to maintain 6.5 knots, it's just a matter of right sizing the prop. Anyone have prop recommendations? Recommend a 3 blade? If so, what size?

Just Changed From 2 To 3 Blade Prop

Dan, I changed my two blade prop a couple of weeks ago. It was a 12x12 and now have a Campbell Sailor 3 blade. I picked it up used for $125. and had their shop cut it from 14 inch down to 13 inch with a 9 inch pitch. I changed my diesel last summer from a worn out Yanmar YSE-12 (single cylinder) to a Yanmar 2GM with 13 HP. With the new prop I noted a big difference in forward speed and with the dingy behind I am getting up to 6.6 MPH ( hand held GPS is in MPH that I used) at 3,200 RPM. At 2,900 RPM where I run I was getting 6 MPH. Thus I guess I am getting about 5.5 knots. Now reverse is another story. The old 2 blade had little reverse walk however the new prop thinks it's a crab and is a pain getting out of a tight slip. It will take some time getting use to the walk but each time out I get a little more use to it. Your larger HP engine would be much more suited to the 3 blade than mine but I am happy overall with the change. Cliff Carter PlusOne C30 #598 Oak Bay Marina, Victoria B.C. P.S. Autoprop

I have an Autoprop. Expensive, but no prop walk, backs fine, and can reach 6.5 knots.

indigo prop

Last year I changed to the indigo prop with great results. Our Cat 30 is powered by Atomic 4 using about 15 bhp of the total 30 bhp.
