Just Changed From 2 To 3 Blade Prop
Dan,I changed my two blade prop a couple of weeks ago. It was a 12x12 and now have a Campbell Sailor 3 blade. I picked it up used for $125. and had their shop cut it from 14 inch down to 13 inch with a 9 inch pitch.I changed my diesel last summer from a worn out Yanmar YSE-12 (single cylinder) to a Yanmar 2GM with 13 HP. With the new prop I noted a big difference in forward speed and with the dingy behind I am getting up to 6.6 MPH ( hand held GPS is in MPH that I used) at 3,200 RPM. At 2,900 RPM where I run I was getting 6 MPH.Thus I guess I am getting about 5.5 knots. Now reverse is another story. The old 2 blade had little reverse walk however the new prop thinks it's a crab and is a pain getting out of a tight slip. It will take some time getting use to the walk but each time out I get a little more use to it.Your larger HP engine would be much more suited to the 3 blade than mine but I am happy overall with the change.Cliff CarterPlusOneC30 #598Oak Bay Marina, Victoria B.C.
