I own an O'Day 272LE and one of the bow cleats is loose. As far as I can tell, the bow cleats mount directly into the fiberglass and do not have a backing plate (or not that I've found yet). Can someone tell me how they are installed and suggest how I can repair the loose one?

No need for Rudy. Crawl forward and you'll find the nuts for the mounting bolts under the carpet headliner in the forward part of the V-Berth. Add a backing plate if you need, else just tighten up the nuts. You may need an associate up on the deck as well.

What Mickstr said. If you don't have an associate, once you find the bolts, put a vise grip on them. Then you can go topside and tighten yourself from above. A t-handle driver is really helpful for getting the torque and downward pressure needed to tighten the bolts from above.
