I know I'm opening myself up for abuse, so feel free to flame away, but I have to be honest about something. I just bought a TV for the boat:eek: Now you must know that I did fight it but with a new toddler sailor, and a nephew only a couple months older, it will keep us on the water LONGER if they can watch Thomas the Train, Elmo and Dora the Explorer. I like to think of it as a 12V pacifier...?? This was not a purchase for our watching pleasure, but none the less, I'm embarrassed to admit that my boat will now be a floating condo.... Now all I need is a microwave...;);) here's one last shot before I "cheese" it out, Vegas style, with a TV!

MaineSail It happens in the best of families.

Don't blame yourself just accept it as the way you were made. try not to allow it to enthrall the kids too much of the time. Teach them to fish also. ;)

Bless You My Son...

For you have confessed your sins. We understand. Make sure they watch the odd kid sailing movie. The interior of your boat is classy and delightful. Pete

Good Captain

A good captain attends to the needs of his passengers. This is a good move. Knowing what we do about your craftmanship I expect a beautifully mounted screen that is covered by varnished wood when not in use.

And then there's this thought

...they eventually grow up and you get your boat back (did for us)! :):):)

I know...

I know they grow up but we started late and had fun early. Though we don't plan on not being fun anymore just in a different way. I had a blast growing up on the water and the kids already seem to love it.. "Wind-A Bago"....Nice!!!

Mainsail, dont apologize for

self abuse. On a more serious note, I have always considered a TV as a major piece of safety gear. The weather reports will be faf more accurate than the clown reports on marine radio. Besides, whetever keeps everyone happy is the important thing. You don't count, remember? When the toddlers grow up a little, they have a high activity level and a short attention span. The TV is just one more way of keeping them happy. Not everyone is a purist. I for one am not. Tony B

Maine Sail, you could just park the kids with a baby sitter

while you do your thing. That way you wouldn't have to be bothered by what they want, and you would have no interruptions, TV, toys, etc. to distract you from what you are doing. Thanks for not doing that. One day your kids will thank you, too. In nearly 40 years as a Boy Scout leader, I have seen too many kids for whom I and my assistants were the only adults who paid them any attention. Enjoy your kids and your sailing! ;D -Paul

And I thought the outside was pristine...

Very nice, Maine Sail. I was hoping to see a rug with a turned up corner, or some other imperfection, but alas, I leave depressed again. Have been officially diagnosed with OCD? Regarding your "confession", I don't really get the 'shame' about tv. Is it because it's called the wasteland, or because sailors of generations past never had them? The post about weatherwatching was dead-on, particularly with today's sophisticated radar!. For the record, I like tv. I even like McDonalds! cup

Ummm..

If you saw how my nephew handles things you'd understand why I did not go with a portable DVD player. I would have been broken in about 30 seconds flat! He's already busted a DeWalt drill charger and he's only 19 months... The TV I bought is an all in one, has a DVD built in and runs on 12V..

OK, please, give us the make and model

of the 12V rig you bought, and we fully expect the installation instructions to be completely photographed with accompanying directions posted and linked to your website. :):):)

I've ordered a..

classic antique red popcorn machine and pair of recliners..;) The TV is a Polaroid 19" LCD with DVD from Target. It's one of the few left that still has a "wall wort" that converts the 120 vac down to 12 vdc. I just plan on not using the "wall wort" and wiring it directly to the boats 12 vdc system. I did buy the extended warranty, something I don't normally do, but only because I'm using it on the boat and because I'm sure the kids will try to feed the DVD player PB&J sandwiches..

Hope it is not a model

that you will have to buy a converter box for next year... or are you going to put in a satellite system on gimbals? ;D -Paul

No there will be...

no antenna! We are not getting this to watch TV but rather to play kids DVD's. I get my weather from the internet via my cell phone...
