Bimini for a C-30

I am looking to install (have installed) a bimini on my 1984 C-30. The rigger visited last week to take measurents and concluded that it would be best to terminate the bimini at the backstay, thus not extending it to the end if the cockpit. The backstay is adjustable and the split would be above the bimini, requiring two sizable holes in the bimini to allow for adjustments. What have others done? I can shorten the backstay and raise the adjuster higher to minimize the change in the split, or lenthen the backstay so that only one hole need to be made in the bimini (but this will reduce my headroom at the helm, as I am 6'3"). Or is my rigger "performing" for me to warm up to a higher $$$ investment secondary to modifications?

Bimini

Mark, I also have a C30 and had a bimini made for it last year. Ours extends beyond the split back stay by using two zippers with re-enforcement at the stays. I think you would be more pleased with your bimini if you extended it in this manner. Tom Behrendt

Extend the Bimini

Mark, I agree with Tom. The bimini on my C-30 stops at the backstay. On hot summer days it gets blistering on that rear seat. If and when I replace my bimini I will definitely extend it on past the backstay. Dwight Miller

Same here

The biminia that came with my boat does not extend past the backstay and I wish it did! It gets HOT back there. Of course there is one other option. Install an autopilot

back stay

My back stay is 10' off the deck. I raised it becouse it was hiting my head when I stood at the wheel.I keep my rig a little tight and only use the back stay when needed I have to push the back stay up with adock pole.( not so bad)My bimmi is being made now it will go back 16"around the back stay and have a ziper between the two stays when its rolled up you can keep it up on the stays. The one I saw had a full encloser the owner looked warm and dry inside I was in full rain gear trying to cook .I think the bimmi is 6'long by 84" wide and zips to my dodger I have aC30TR I am over 6' and boom hight is worrying me I was thinking about shorting my main sail or puting a standard rig main sail up to the mast head. But thats for another day.
