We bought our first home computer in the early-ish '90s. I showed my son a video of Ed White's first spacewalk. His reaction was, "And he's wearing an old-fashion spacesuit." Jeepers. There were no forums in the "old" days.....

And all run by huge vacuum tubes..you are correct but there were computers that were as big a 18 wheeler or even bigger
Yeah you're right!a time when you could consult a band of strangers
I used such a computer in college. It was slow and not nearly as powerful of a computer as a smart phone. The only advantage it had was that 10 could use it at the same time.you are correct but there were computers that were as big a 18 wheeler or even bigger
I didn't know you sailed with Admiral Halsey!I fiddled with such a computer while in the navy.
Computers today are the same as always, one task at a time. They were always and still are, Multi tasking. The only advantage it had was that 10 could use it at the same time.
Try using the number "e" instead. Pi is just a ratio of a circle's circumference to its' diameter. This is not really related to a cost of a project. "e" on the other hand defines growth rates and will much more accurately predict the growth of a projects' effort or cost. I think the two numbers being close is allowing you to get a good approximation but "e" will help you nail it exactly :>) http://betterexplained.com/articles/an-intuitive-guide-to-exponential-functions-e/I multiply by Pi all home and boat project "should take" and "should cost" estimates. Has given remarkably accurate results over the years.![]()
time is money and if you don't have the money to pay a team of workers to do the work and have to do it yourself it will take longer ...when i got my boat i thought a year or a year and a half ....7 years and one and a half months i floated it ....i even got concerned i might die before completion ...but hey here i am in the water thinking.... wish i had started this ten years before i did ...all i can say is work safe and hurry the hell up.....I am into my 3rd year of my estimated 6 month renovation project. It has kicked my butt. I actually lost interest for over 6 months. Didn't touch the boat during that time and it's in my backyard!. Between that and forgetting what the heck I went in the garage for, it has taken longer than expected. Estimated launch date is now Fall of 2016........or Spring 2017![]()

I've been carrying my hot-water heater around in the boat for almost a year now. It will fit where I thought it would go, but it won't fit through the cockpit locker opening! I have to cut out a wider hole... let's see... jig-saw... need some blades... have to put in a shelf for the tank... need some plywood... some epoxy... oh hell, let's just have a beer instead!I finally got started installing my pressurized hot & cold water system on Saturday. I managed to install the water heater with just 4 screws into the quarter berth floor. Rain, a trip to the store, a few wrong fittings, and hurriedly packing up so that I didn't miss a dinner appointment conspired to keep me from getting any more done. My dockmates said I looked busy all day. I dejectedly told them I effectively accomplished the installation of just 4 bolts to secure my water heater. They said, "wow, great job"!
My HW heater has been disconnected and bypassed for a year now. Still haven't figure out how to remove it without dissembling the entire galley.
