Hey Gang ..I have a brand new ac on my Catalina 34 and my 2400 gen will not run it. Has anyone ever used one of the portable ac's like zero breeze? Also the have a new one for RVs that is 12v and mounts on the roof...any thoughts?

Zero Breeze units were discussed here a month or two ago. I believe the general conclusion is that they're more appropriate for a tent rather than a boat due to it's low output

When you say the generator won’t run the AC do you mean it won’t start it? What is the continuous rated output of the generator? You may get by with installing a soft start.

Yep, zero breeze does not cool very well. I borrowed one and tried it on my 23ft boat and it didn't cool much.

A 2400W genset should easily run a 16,000 BTU A/C even without a soft start. What size and brand is the new A/C? How is it failing to run off the genset? I'd explore just why it isn't running off the genset before tossing a new A/C for something else.

I know guys had trouble starting that AC with Honda 2000 but added soft start for the startup

Make sure the electrical connections are clean and the wire size is adequate for the air conditioner voltage supply.

the 3 prong 30 amp plugs right into genset ..Gonna try again this weekend

You would get more usable help if you answered the questions on what genset, what is its rated continuous output, and what brand and model A/C. Otherwise, we are all just guessing along with you here.

The connections I am thinking of are at the back of the power Inlet socket, at the breaker panel buss, the breaker connections, etc.
