A serious question.

Ok, not a true sailing song but it works real nice in wind chop. Love the Willie Nelson line..."and the sun is going to burn into a cinder before we ever pass this way again...

CC's "Sailing", while not a favorite, is on my sailing playlist as is most of the others mentioned. Mostly due to the nostalgia it brings. I will break out Ride of the Valkyries when slowly overtaking another sailboat just for fun.
The Eric Kunzel " Sailing" album, already mentioned, is a favorite on our boat while in the slip or at anchor.
I haven't seen "Shiver Me Timbers" by James Taylor mentioned. We only recently discovered it and is a current favorite.

When I saw @Scott T-Bird had posted a question with 83 replies in a couple of days I wondered what trouble he was starting. Fun thread for mid winter.

You guys are missing the greatest CDs for anchoring with a sailboat. People anchoring too close to you can be a problem so if the icy stares and hand signals don't work there are two surefire CDs to start blasting over your external speakers. 1st put on Barry Manilow's greatest hits . If the offending party starts wearing colorful clothes and dancing bring out the heavy artillery, Slim Whitmans King of Country Yodeling. Have some earplugs on board just for these occasions. Surefire way to get the offending party to move.

Another great song. I first had the Allman Brothers version but deleted it when I found Van Morrison's version.

Aw, man... someone beat me to it! My sailing club had an oldies dance. 45 RPM records hanging on plastic vines, the records held in place by a leaf poked through the holes. Just as I was leaving, going out the doorway, I saw the 45, "Sailing" by B.M.. I never knew he had sung it. I asked the boss if I could have it. She said, sure... I could have all 50 of the records if I helped take them all down. I just grabbed Sailing, and in almost a year I have not played it. Makes me want to go home and hook up the stereo!

I have warm fuzzy memories wile listening to several of the old Christopher Cross songs, so I may be a bit biased on that one ;) . on-board these days we have several Jimmy Buffet cds but instrumental is always nice wile sailing as well. Tim Pacheco (A Gathering Of Guides) comes to mind as one instrumental (acoustic guitar) favorite.

A lot of it depends on curmstance.

A few years ago after a serious 90nm open water crossing we were pulling into a perfect anchorage an hour before sundown. Light and temp perfect. On the last mile in, broke out rum drinks and put on Jack Johnson. 'Banana Pancakes' on the way to the hook. To me now easily one of the best sailing songs ever.

Definitely a good vibe from a day sailing can enhance a musical experience. One evening, after dinner with a favorite beverage as the summer sun is setting, the fauna of the anchorage are active, a mellow Miles Davis set was just a perfect way to say goodbye to the sunshine. Van's "Into the Mystic" is a good wrap up for other reasons...
