It was quite an old boat. In fact, I think it came all the way from Canada. The captain of the boat is the third generation to run it for the elderly owner, I was told.
The owner sat contentedly most of the time during 3 days at Mystic Seaport Museum (our boat tied up in the background), next to his,...

Thank you, Will. Sailing, boats, life on the water, it's all very inspirational. I've been 'testing' the $10 lamp and very happy with the warm light it puts out on these cool September evenings.
I put a simpler version together with a short cord and plug to be moved or stored.
A chunk of driftwood with a hole through the center. A short channel in the bottom to run the cord of 16-2 wire. To give it a stable base, a disk or Lexan created with a 4" hole saw is screwed through the bottom into the driftwood(that also captures and secures the 16-2). As with the stones, threaded lamp pipe is epoxied, not bolted(to allow 16-2 to exit base above Lexan).
Simple, cheap($20?), great light(choose your wattage and color)!
