Good morning, spring is here i hope. Started to work on the boat and scraping paint, remove wiring and rusted parts. I have came back to the keel and what to do with it. It has alot of rust inside and would like to remove it before new centerboard go in. What do you think about unbolting the keel from the boat and working on to it that way? By doing this i will be able to reseal the joint. So has any one done this or have any through about this?
I think that this would be the best way to go for you if you can do it. This way, you could sand blast the keel both inside and out, and later apply a primer and a special paint. I know of at least one guy who had the same issue and painted his keel and keel slot, but I'm not sure if he dropped his keel. You can find out if you visit his blog.

Just to keep you guys up to date, as of tonight the keel is out. No broken fingers or leg all went like clock work. Check out my home page and pictures date 3-31-09. Do anyone have a ideal on the sealant they would use on the keel to the boat joint?

I have removed one- but not yet reinstalled. I made fairly easy work of this using a pallet jack. Too many details for my slow typing but feel free to call. I was surprised to find the iron keel case is also open at the top. This helps in removing the often very stuck center board.
