Installing 1 1/2” SaniFlex hose. The Y valve (measures 1 1/2”) fits easily into the hose but the 1 1/2” elbow doesn’t fit easily (because it measures 1 5/8” ... bought at Ace Hardware). What elbow do I buy to fit the 1 1/2” SaniFlex hose? Thanks!

Any chance of damaging the SaniFlex hose by stretching/forcing it on to a barb 1/8” larger than its 1 1/2” diameter?

The one you bought at Ace is likely 1 1/2" pipe size, measured inside .

Domestic plumbing fittings are sized according to the ID...marine hose fittings use the OD to fit into hoses, which are are sized according to their ID. 1/8" is quite a bit to stretch a hose....it can cause small tears to develop. I'd return the one you bought at Ace and buy a marine 1.5".

I went through this recently my own self. Bought fittings at ACE because price. I managed to make it work but boy were my fingers sore afterwards from wrestling the hose onto the fittings. The next size down at ACE is 1 1/4" which is too small. West Marine has the more correct sizes but we are talking $12 instead of $1.50 per fitting. Good luck.

I had no idea that plain ol' plastic thread-barb hose fittings could be impossible to find any more! I spent over an hour trying to find 'em in PVC, any type of plastic...Nobody except Shields even seems to make 'em any more and I could only find two retail sources for those--WM and Jamestown Distributors whose price was 50% higher than WM!

Sorry!

It might if one end were threaded AND it's stated size is the OD (see post #8 above).

Malyea...those are nylon fittings. Nothing wrong with that, but I wonder why nylon didn't turn up anywhere in my search for "plastic tank fittings."
