I recently bought an albin vega 27 from 1973 with a proctor mast
I have the same problem with corrosion in the beginning of the mast like many others
I ve read many posts about that but im still confused of how to repair it
Should i cut it or not? And if i cut it what is the best...

I'm returning a '77 Widgeon to seaworthiness as the first step in a long-term restoration. After inspecting the mast step, I found some play in the raised platform (~4-6" off the keel/hull?) that supports the mast socket. I'm wondering if anyone has repaired/replaced this area of a Widgeon...
I am planning on replacing my rotten mast step and the core in the deck around it on a 78 Hunter 30'. Does anyone know if the rounded "T" shape of the raised step has structural importance? Could the deck be smooth here? It would loose about .5 of height, adding slack to my stays.
