Kevin, question

Just had to share this pic I took from a few weeks ago, I pass this each time enter I Lake Erie. This is the same one that I took that frozen lighthouse pic a few years ago. A higher quality one is the leadoff pic on my site...it was an amazing day. The high res one is at kjrstudio.com
Kevin,

Are you the photographer and copywriter? Do you give us permission to use?

Lake Erie

That is a great picture Kevin. It just reminded me of the many days I spent sailing at the other end on Lake Dreary in Buffalo. The "Lake"certainly could get angry in a hurry.

Great picture Kevin. I remember that light well from the days when I worked for the USACE as a hydrographic surveyor. We used to sound the entire Cleveland harbor and the rest of the harbors in Lake Erie from Toledo to Buffalo and the harbors in Lake Ontario. I enjoyed those days, but it also included a lot of travel away from my family

Looks great Technodad- the 23 is indeed a sweet looking boat, not that I'm biased or anything. ;)
Wondering what kind of shape your forward hatch is in? Mine has some small cracks and I've been researching ways to try and make a new one from polycarbonate or reinforcing the ribs. Amazingly, my kids are great about not stepping on it, but eventually I fear some newbie adult friend will end up crashing through it.

If your lens is cracked you should be able to remove it by applying some heat to putty knife blades and try to work them into the frame. Perhaps a heating lamp or a hair dryer will speed up the process.
If it's a Gray Marine hatch similar to mine, you should be able to remove just the cover by hammering the hinge pins out and using an Allen Wrench to disconnect the adjusters. This way you can work on it in your work shop. All the pins have tiny ridges at one end which helps to keep them in place and it's advisable to push the pins out from the other end with small hammer and pin punch.
I would replace the lens with a thicker lens. Dap Silicone Rubber Adhesive Caulking can be used to adhere the lens.

You should rough up the areas where the adhesive is going to be applied and clean it good with denatured alcohol. These surfaces need to be cleaned good for the caulking to stick. I just redid my hatch this past summer and it's holding up great with no leaks.

Unfortunately, it's not a lens, but rather the whole hatch is made from molded polycarbonate.

Indysailor, my hatch has a number of small cracks also emanating from the hinge and knob bolt holes. I don't suspect they will get much bigger or the hatch break apart though. Polycarbonate is very tough.

After Hurricane Sandy, This is my favorite pic.
Starlyte, finally being hauled out. Our marina was wiped out, totally.
16 boats made it. My little O'Day made it. 36 others did not.
So, I'm going to remember this one for quite some time.
She has a couple thousand miles on her.

Hi Joe,

That's a nice fish!... from the Taunton River? I just moved East from Pawtucket and now in Fairhaven. Been striper fishing for years on the Providence River and Narragansett Bay and have tried cooking them all ways. My favorite is baked with onions, garlic, tomatoes, potatos and some of that Portugese minced red pepper. I'm now the proud owner of one of your neighbor's boats from the Somerset YC. O'Day 27 (was Under the Sheets II). Maybe we'll see you out there. I can't wait to start fishing Buzzard's Bay.

Hi Johnny,
Yes, from the Taunton River while trolling on a run just past the old Slade's Ferry bridge area near Somerset. Hey, I'm going to have to try that recipe. Thanks Johnny!
