Hi Mike, took some pictures today. Double spreader config, raked back and set inside the deck. Probably hard (expensive) to convert what we have.
Please do, would love to get a larger jib, even if I can get a 125-135 it would help! Thanks Chris. You are right. It would be prohibitive to replace the mast and spreaders, but might be possible to run a larger jib to either cars, like they they have, or a snatch block off the stanchions. Will talk to sailmakers and riggers at Annapolis boat show next month. These pics will help that conversation. Also useful for me to know actually that it is possible to place the cars and winches where they have them (wasnt sure how strong the deck was there). I'll let you know what I hear.
I’m interested, who is your North rep? I’ve been talking to Parker Mitchell about some ideas to. If we can get some new composite genoas that approach 110 with big roach area it would be a good start.Talked to North Sails and Doyle yesterday. Both said a large Genoa would not work on our boats because the spreader stay chainplates are too far out on our decks (ours are at the toe rail, compared to the boat you pictured where the chain plates are against the cabin). So on our boats it would not be possible to pull the gennie in tight, negating any upwind advantage. However, the Doyle salesman talked to the engineer who designed the original sails for our boats. His suggestion was a headsail with the same foot as ours but a larger roach, more area at the top of the leach, which would give more upwind power (same idea as the squared off mainsails). They can also make it from a lighter composite which will add performance His estimate for cost was about $2750. Northsails has not yet sent a proposal but they had a similar idea. Im probably going to try this. If you are interested I can see whether we can get a price break for 2 (or more if anyone else is interested)
