1985 Hunter hull

Ok, hope you all know the answer this: I just ran a Hull ID search and what I was thinking was a 1987 Hunter Legend 37 came back as a 1985 hull. Any idea if this can still be a legend 37 or would it be a regular 37? I’m only considering acquiring this boat if it has a solid fiberglass hull and a walk thru transom. (Visual verification is not an option at this time)

First, what is the hull number which will give you the model boat, month and year when the hull was laid and model year of the boat. Then look under hunter resources for that boat under boat information. The keel is either a wing bulb keel or a fixed keel. What is the hull number which can be found underneath the starboard rub rail on the transom or under the starboard rear rub rail next to transom

According to the photo gallery, the 37.5 has a step on transom as does the 37, but much higher. Both have solid FRP hulls below the waterline, and neither were produced in1985. However, the 37-cutter was produced in 1985, a solid FRP hull below the waterline, but did not have a step/walk on transom. Are you wanting the hull number? It says it’s a 1985, but that’s the issue. From what I’ve found Hunter stopped making the 37 hull at the end of 84 and didn’t start making the Legend 37 until 1986.

My 1988 H33.5 had a reverse walk thru transom with fold up ladder. No swim platform; just walk thru transom. I believe a full swim platform was added around 1990.

Says online that the last year for the 36 was 83

I came on board with Hunter as a trailerable dealer in late 1984-1985 and then with the larger boats. I responded to the hull number you gave me. Call the forum store and ask Mike if he can recall a Hunter with the hull number you gave me. A photo of the hull number would be beneficial

Yeah…. That’s a little difficult…. It’s under 18 feet of water currently ‍

Although you said visual inspection could not be done at this time, you should have told us the boat was 18 feet under water which is a major issue. The only thing I tried to help you with was how to read a hull number that you posted here.

Since the boat is 39 years old and underwater, I will let others to chime in as to what should be considered.
