G’morning Greg and others. I have a video that hopefully helps ‘splain’ (as Ricky Ricardo from “I Love Lucy” used to say.) but when I try attaching it, I get an error message. . The cable that’s attached to the car does turn down in the aft end of the boom and goes inside. I haven’t figured out where it ‘goes’.
I don’t think you can upload videos directly to SBO. I save mine on YouTube, and then include a link to the YouTube video.

So we are speculating that this is/was some form of roller-furling boom…interesting. @FROCKY , are there any name plates or decal anywhere on the boom to indicate the mfg?

Are we also thinking it is inoperative and really just a boom? I would think so, if this vang is attached to the part that should roll….can we get a photo of where it attaches to the boom?

But we still don’t know how the outhaul is tightened.

The photos at both ends of the boom sure look like it was originally a rolling boom furling system. But looking carefully at those photos seems it has not been used as such for a long time. I would not be surprised that it no longer works. But we have no overall photos. Also no photos of the current main sail but that would only be useful to try and understand if the current main sail has been modified from a roller furling to something else - not the topic here....
