Noise between Mast and Boom

I'm experining a loud sqeaking noise that seems to coming from the area where the mast and boom connect. I have put SailKote dry lubricant on it which stops most of the sound. Is anyone aware of anything else I can do to stop the noise

Some goosenecks have (or are supposed to have) plastic bushings which tend to wear out resulting in metal on metal contact.

Raise and lower the boom by hand near the mast and listen for squeaking sound. If squeaking, then install plastic washers on the bottom of the gooseneck bilt lifting the boom slightly. Then try to move the boom up and down and listen for the squick.

If you have a boom vang, snug it up slightly to prevent the boom from moving up and down too much.

I was thinking there must be something that would prevent the metals from rubbing togother.

It turns out the noise was not coming from where the boom meets the mast. The pin that goes through the bracket securing the
Forespar Yacht Rod Boom Vang to the mast seized, preventing the bracket from swiveling as the boom moved across the boat causing the bracket to bend see attached picture. The noise was the rod of the boom vang rubbing against the bracket. I'm planning on calling Forespar on Monday to see if they still sell the parts. If not, any suggestions on who might sell used parts?

Wow. It’s nice to discover the problem. Bring the sound of silence to your boat.

You may not be able to find an off the shelf solution. I would seek a local machine shop. Ask them to build one.

If I can not find replacement parts or have the current one repaired I can still use a non mechanical boom vang system. Although, I will need to attach a cable to the back stay to hold the boom up. Does any one have any suggestions on how to attach a steel cable to the back stay ?

Ouch... Please help me understand when you need to hold the boom up.

If you are sailing, the sail holds the boom in place (or at least should). If you are at rest, attach your main halyard to the end of the boom. It can serve as a topping lift while you repair your rigid vang.
