They made it through the dark and stormy night!

It was a very dark and stormy night! The sea state had no direction. Waves came from everywhere. Breaking waves. Smashing into the boat from each quarter. Inside was like a washing machine. We are tired and a bit bruised but doing well.

Sleep was not possible the best we could do is find a corner in the main saloon that remained possible to get comfortable in. We sang some sea shanties. Listened to the crashing waves and all the sounds of the boat. I couldn't help think about folks that talk about taking less than blue water capable boats out to sea. Listening to how much impact those waves make, I came to more greatly appreciate the different classifications of boats. If one is going off shore, get a boat built for it.

Even though we can help with the Weather, Dave's boat did not make 5 knt to avoid that LOW. :yikes:

He basically hit a minor Subtropical Storm at the same time hitting an Eddy of the Gulf Stream.

All systems on his boat are good. Batteries charged, fuel down 25%.

The currents and my suggested route.

Any plan for Tuesday night and Wednesday. It doesn't look like fun.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. Are you confident in the boat?

Am I confident in my boat Musetta? Probably one of the best boats there is for this. Not that I have any desire to test her, but she is very solid. The entire hull and topsides are solid fiberglass about 1 1/2 inches thick. This boat was designed and built for blue water. Now I'd much prefer to not have any direct testing, but if there is no choice ...

I just talked to John and discussed some of the items to look for and what to do in several likely scenarios. Hopefully not too much was messed up. He has really big bilges so that gave him earlier warming than I would have had on my shallow bilge Catalina. By the time that anyone noticed that my waterline wasn't, I would have more than a foot of water above the floorboards.

Water was flowing in through the vent hose on the PSS. This hose had been attached to the line from the raw water pump and with the pump gone, it back flowed into the bilge.
Ah, OK. thanks. I was confused, too, I thought our intrepid Atlantic voyagers were taking on water, and I was upset. Weird thread hijack.

Sorry, friends helping friends. I went back and added hijack notes to each of mine so that we do not cause undue concern for dLj's safety.
